  3. Recent Past: Event at Allerton 2012 • Organized pictionary • Pizza plus show • Positive: lots of fun • Negative: over 50% ate and left • Holding it in solarium a bad idea

  5. The Jobs and Mentorship Panel • Aim: To talk about jobs in academia & industry and what mentorship is available • Joint with the Outreach Committee • Moderated by SalimElRouayheb • Panelists • Giuseppe Caire • ElzaErkip • DongningGuo • BobakNazer • John Smee (Qualcomm)

  6. Proposal: An IT Video Contest • Similar to contest in ComSoc • Different theme • Applicants would post short (<10 min) videos on youtube • Theme of the video • Intro to basic information theory concepts • Ex: how your phone works? Basic coding concepts

  7. Rules & Logistics of Contest • A website created to advertise contest • Website will include good examples • From Khan Academy khanacademy.org • From ITA’s videos • From TED talks • Notification of video posting to be sent to video@ece.utexas.edu • All video links to be posted on website

Rules and Logistics Continued • Timed to conclude by ISIT in Istanbul • Announcement to be made on Monday (lunch) • Entries solicited by mid June • Judging Criteria: • Rating on Youtube • Moderated by student/postdoc co-chairs • 3 prizes • Shannon’s Collected Works • Handed at ISIT during Thursday lunch event • Budget Request: $500 for the awards

  9. IT School Update • 2013: Purdue • 2014: Upcoming proposal for Toronto • At the University of Toronto campus • Organization: Stark Draper • Tentatively schedule for mid June 2014 • Full proposal to be presented at ISIT BoG meeting in Istanbul
