UMMC Emergency Operations Plan: Ensuring Safety & Preparedness

The Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) at UMMC provides a comprehensive approach to ensure a healthy and secure environment for all campus members. This plan guides preparation, response, and recovery from hazards that may threaten the campus community, patients, staff, and visitors. UMMC utilizes the National Incident Command System (NIMS) for effective incident management, and all employees receive emergency management education and specific incident management training.

  2. Emergency Operations Plan • The Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) uses an all-hazards approach to take responsible steps for providing a healthy, safe, and secure environment for all members of the campus community.   Photo courtesy J.Wilson

Emergency Operations Plan • The EOP will guide planning and response to hazards that may threaten: • The UMMC campus community. • The safety of patients, staff, students, and visitors. • Ability of the hospital to provide healthcare services. • The purpose of this plan is to improve the capacity of UMMC to prepare for, detect, respond to, recover from and mitigate the negative outcomes of threats and emergencies. National Incident Command System • UMMC will utilize a comprehensive, national approach to incident management called National Incident Command System (NIMS). • NIMS provides the framework for interoperability and compatibility. • NIMS is based on a balance between flexibility and standardization. UMMC Staff and EOP Education • All employees will receive emergency management education during new employee orientation to: • Appreciate the importance of disaster preparedness. • Understand the purpose of the EOP. • Discover how to access the EOP. • Instructions from Senior Leadership will be disseminated to Deans, Department Heads, and Directors. Contact your immediate supervisor for instructions during an emergency incident.

UMMC and Emergency Management • The employees who will have a primary responsibility as part of Emergency Management functions: • Will receive specific incident management training in: • IS-100.a Introduction to Incident Command System • IS-200.a Incident Command System for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents http://www.fema.gov/

UMMC and Emergency Management • The employees who are likely to assume an Incident Command positions and or participate in Emergency Management planning functions: • Will receive specific incident management training in: • IS-100.a Introduction to Incident Command System • IS-200.a Incident Command System for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents • IS-700.a National Incident Management System, An Introduction • IS-800.b National Response Framework, An Introduction
