Introduction • Asia Pacific Federation • 2006 ~ 2008 • Taiwan & Korea • 2008 ~ 2010 • EGEE – Australia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan • EUAsiaGrid - Australia, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippine, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam • Asia Pacific Federation is • Extending the gLite Infrastructure, currently led by ASGC • Engaging more user communities to join worldwide e-Science collaboration • Building regional e-Infrastructure and e-Science application • Conducting and supporting a production e-Infrastructure • Working together to provide better user support • Conducting more business and industry cooperation for new business model and opportunity • Asia-Federation Meetings have been held in • EGEE Conference 2006 (September 2006, Switzerland) • ISGC 2007 (March 2007, Taiwan) • EGEE User Forum (May 2007, UK) • GridAsia 2007 (June 2007, Singapore) • EGEE Conference 2007 (October 2007, Hungary) Asia-Pacific Federation_Academia Sinica Grid Computing

ASGC The coordinator of Asia-Pacific Federation (EGEE & EUAsiaGrid) NA2 partner in Asia-Pacific Federation, but an unfunded partner Supports EGEE sites in Asia Pacific since April 2005: 21 production sites in 8 countries; over 1,600 CPU and 500 TB the only WLCG Tier-1 Centre in Asia Pacific WLCG/EGEE Operation Centre in Asia Pacific Region Activities that ASGC are involved with EGEE-II SA1: Grid Operations, Support and Management SA3: Integration, Testing and Certification NA2: Dissemination, Outreach and Communication NA3: Training and Induction NA4: Application Identification and Support Academia Sinica Grid Computing (ASGC) Asia-Pacific Federation_Academia Sinica Grid Computing

Participation in EGEE-II • SA1 (Grid Operations, Support and Management) • SA1 support 21 production sites from 8 countries • 9 sites joined EGEE since last year • SA3 (Integration, Testing and Certification) • ASGC participated in SA3 and joined activities such as WMS testing and glite 3.1 lcgCE testing and integration. • NA2 (Dissemination, Outreach and Communication) • Will explain details in later slides • NA3 (Training and Induction) • NA3 is usually working together with NA2 • 5 training events have been organized by ASGC (see slide no. 9) • NA4 (Application Identification and Support) • Coordinate Grid applications activity between institutes in Taiwan and Asia Pacific countries. • Provide Grid application users support Asia-Pacific Federation_Academia Sinica Grid Computing

Outcome, Successes & Conclusion • Outcome & Successes • Promote the importance of EGEE project and increase collaboration opportunities in Asia Pacific region • Japan and Australia has joined the EGEE III • 9 sites have established and joined EGEE sites since 2007 (9 sites have installed gLite and been certified in 2007) • AS/TW, UMel/AU, CKSC/KR, KISTI/KR, IDA/SG (AP partners in EGEE-II and III), joined the Avian Flu Drug Discovery Data Challenge I & II in 2006 and 2007 respectively • EUAsiaGrid project was formed & approved (15 partners: 11 Asia Pacific partners & 4 European partners) • Further strengthening the links between Europe and Asia Pacific region (through project collaboration and cross-support within training events) • Conclusion • Asia Pacific is geographically large and culturally diverse in nature • Cross cultural cooperation will increase the development of global Grid technologies.
