  1. CVMFS Doug Benjamin Duke University

  2. on Stratum 1, symlink from http://.../opt/atlas to http://.../opt/atlas-newns • No old name space any more both point to same name space • This week( 1st of August) new version of cvmfs-init-scripts • will not create the /opt/atlas symlink anymore.   • will remove a symlink /opt/atlas --> /cvmfs/atlas.cern.ch if present.   • This update should only be applied afterswitching to the new namespace. • For CernVM, we inform users about the date/time of the switch and we provide updated cvmfs-init-scripts as well.  They are instructed to reboot CernVM and update their virtual machine. • Working with Stratum 1’s to determine exact time next week (early in week at 16:00 CERN time) CVMFS ATLAS Name space switch

  3. CERN-IT (Steve Traylen) has provided two nodes (cmvfs-atlas.cern.ch and cvmfs-atlas-condb.cern.ch) for hosting ATLAS Stratum-0 repositories • Machines currently in test phase • Machine - cvmfs-atlas.cern.ch • ATLAS releases and Tier 3 UI • Alessandro DeSalvo has installed a few releases as a test • Machine cvms-atlas-condb.cern.ch • ATLAS conditions DB files • Doug Benjamin has installed some of the condb files as a test • In past used dq2-get to get many of the condb files – dq2-get currently broken on machine • Are all condb files mounted on AFS rsync from AFS works. • Machines are proof CERN-IT is supporting CVMFS backend. CVMFS backend work at CERN

  4. Cvmfs V2.0 • Release end of next week • Cvmfs- nagios • Will be put online same time scale as cvmfs v2.0 • Nfs on top of cvmfs • Does not work – interplay between fuse and nfs – further details: http://cernvm.cern.ch/portal/node/132 • Diskless –cvmfs • Still at least 6 months away – higher priorities • Since cvmfs is important to ATLAS should push for a cvmfs CERN fellow. CVMFS developments

  5. Mailing list for help and questions (admin’s should join) "atlas-adc-cvmfs (deployment and operations of CVMFS in ATLAS)” atlas-adc-cvmfs@cern_dot_ch • Sites who have not read ATLAS CVMFS wiki should do so https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/Atlas/CernVMFS • Wiki will be expanded to include a Best Practices Section • Want to avoid situation seen recently where site put cvmfs cache in /tmp on worker nodes and tmpwatch process erased cache and caused significant problems • Deligent Site Admins will also look at the CVMS documentation: http://cernvm.cern.ch/portal/techinfo • Look at Configuration examples and the technical report (pdf file) Site Preparation for CVMFS transition

  6. Cloud support should join Mailing list for help and questions • "atlas-adc-cvmfs (deployment and operations of CVMFS in ATLAS)” atlas-adc-cvmfs@cern_dot_ch • Clouds should decide now how they want proceed with the transition • Site by Site with: • complete change over • Use existing test queue at their site • Setup new virtual test queue in Panda with test pilots • HC can send test jobs (no blacklisting in test jobs) to verify site • Inform ads ops and atlas cvmfs list of decision Cloud Preparation for CVMFS transition

  7. ATLAS Transition to CVMFS is proceeding Sites who have not familiarized themselves with CVMFS should do so Clouds need to decide how they want to handle the transition including how they want to test during the transition CVMFS will become how ATLAS distributes software on the grid. (old method is going away) Conclusions
