Framework 7 • Scottish HE sector very strong: • €636M of funding to Scotland in FP7 income 2007-13 • €538M of which to Scottish universities and research organisations. • Scotland’s SMEs were active in FP7 but received a relatively low financial return. • Fraction of the total for private sector

  3. What are we trying to achieve ? • Increased engagement in H2020 by SMEs and Scottish Universities working together. • A stronger role for Scottish SMEs in university and business consortia in H2020 projects across Europe. • Sustainable Economic Growth.

  4. What is the H2020 SME Engagement Scheme ? • £1K-£5K vouchers to allow support for SME engagement in early stages of: • Engagement with EU officials and structures • Consortia building • Proposal writing

  5. How does it work ? • Through Interface, similar to Innovation Vouchers • Rapid turnaround • Simple application and reporting • Established network of support and advice

  6. How does it work ? • Yes to; • SME – university engagement • Travel for SME team – consortia building • SME engagement with EU officials, partners • Reasonable support for proposal writing • No to: • Consultancy fees • Academic-only applications

  8. Bigger picture ? • Partners in discussion over opportunities for follow-on support for businesses as H2020 applications are successful. • This is part of a package of support for Scotland’s participation in H2020.
