  2. ______ _____? ______ _____? ______ _____? • Space is very big, so usually we do NOT use km (kilometers) or mi (miles) to give distances in space • Within our solar system, we use astronomical units (AU) to measure distances • 1 AU= distance from sun to Earth, about 150 million kilometers • Outside the solar system, to measure distances between stars, in or across galaxies, we use the distance unit of light years (LY) • 1 LY= distance light travels in one year, about 10 trillion kilometers
