Activity since December 2004 • Ran an experiment including 2 cells, 1 set of oil (new and used), 4 labs. • Data reported with raw spectra only for central analysis. • Cell calibration data also supplied for review. • Precision improvement results: • RR spring 2004 gave overall SD of lab averages of 49.6 • This experiment gave overall SD of lab averages of 4.2

Next steps List of Actions to Maintain this Precision • Run New oil scan in triplicate up front and 2 more times mid and end of test. • Run Used oil scans in triplicate for at least last 2 samples of a test. • Demountable cells are to be calibrated by fringe (in triplicate) each time the cell is taken apart for cleaning and should be checked each run day. • Develop a set of industry control samples for 6 month RR review of the labs.
