Units of Inquiry • How we express ourselves International Mindedness provides a window into the cultures of others • Where we are in place and time People and places have histories which can be uncovered through a variety of sources. • Who we are Personal well being is dependent on a complex balance of inter-connected factors • How the world works Changing material to suit our needs impacts our world • Sharing the Planet: The way we live impacts the global environment (EXHIBITION) • How we organise ourselves Technology impacts on the systems used in the world of work and leisure

Curriculum and learning Subjects to be studied: • English (IB Scope and Sequence documents)- Oral Language - Listening and Speaking, Visual Language -Viewing and Presenting, Written Language – Reading, Writing • Mathematics (IB Scope and Sequence documents)- Number, Data Handling, Measurement, Shape and Space, Pattern and Function

Curriculum and Learning (continued) • Inquiry incorporates social studies, science, art, • Music (Mr. Clothier) • Chinese • PE (Ms. Farry)Swimming program for Year 6 this year will be in Term 2 and class based P.E. program will be held on Thursdays. • IT is used to enhance learning in all areas, where appropriate

  6. The Gateway • Completed sections of reports can be accessed throughout the year (eg UoI Comments) • Reports can be downloaded as a PDF document and printed off by parents at the end of the year • The school will not be sending home a hard copy of the report this year • Parent/Teacher Consultations (Nov) - booking appointments will be online through Gateway • Usernames and login Passwords will be sent to new families (including Y1) by mail • Current families who have a child joining Y1 this year should login and accept the child to their account Gateway

  7. Timetable/Daily Routines • Timetable written into diary every term • PE with Ms Farry changes every 3/4 weeks • Children will write important dates and events into their diary Please ensure your child brings their reading books and diary to school everyday

  8. Homework • Continuing on from last year, all classes will receive their homework every two weeks, beginning Monday 5th Sept and due Wednesday the following week • Reinforcement of class work • Subjects may include Mathematics, English, Inquiry and Chinese • Reading daily • The grid will be on The Buzz and will be sent home as a hard copy in their homework books • Chinese is given out separately on the Buzz Please read and sign your child’s diary and homework grid

  9. Educational Visits • Camp (Outward Bound in Sai Kung) Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th December 2011 • History Museum (parent help needed) • Happy Valley Cemetery (parent help needed)

  10. Uniform Please name everyarticle of uniform Bradbury School bags and hats are compulsory No headscarves please Long hair to be tied back, especially for P.E Jewellery: Only permitted for religious reasons Only studs should be worn in pierced ears Please contact Mr. Fennellyif in doubt

  11. Health and Safety • If your child has allergies or a serious medical condition, the class teacher must be informed • Please take precautions against mosquitoes • All medication must be administered by the school nurse (Ms. Lau)

  12. Food (snack, lunches, drinks) • Ensure your child has enough water for the day, bring a reusable water bottle each day • Snacks should be healthy to ensure children have enough energy • No gum or fizzy drinks • Nut-Free Zone (including Cake Sale)

  13. Communication • The majority of communication from the school will come via email and diary. • If you have not been receiving emails from us, please let us know. • Please ensure we have your current email address • To update information on gateway, email bsgateway@bs.esf.edu.hk

The Exhibition • Parent Information Evening – Thursday 23 February • Exhibition – Tuesday 15, Thursday 17 May 2012 The exhibition “represents a significant event in the life of a PYP school and student, synthesizing the essential elements of the PYP and sharing them with the whole school community. As a culminating experience it is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the IB learner profile that have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP.”

Important Dates • Athletics Meet Causeway Bay Sports Ground Thursday 3rd November • Outward Bound Parent Meeting Wednesday 9th November @ 5pm • Y6 Camp Outward Bound Tuesday 6th-9th December - Information Evening TBA • Y6 Cricket Tournament Thursday 15th December 1 – 2pm • Last day of Autumn term Friday 16th December (early dismissal 12 noon)

  18. Secondary Dates Children going to ESF secondary schools will have ‘taster’ days in Term 2 and 3.
