  2. Different Forms of Offroading

  3. Mudding An off-road vehicle runs through a pit of mud, with the vehicle getting fully caked and immersed in mud. Tires play a critical role in mudding. Mud terrain tires should have extra large lugs because they allow you to keep traction and keeps you from getting stuck.

  4. Dune Basing This involves driving off-road vehicles through sand dunes. A combination of driving on mud and hills. Very popular in Saudi Arabia and the middle east due to the abundance of sand dunes there but in other areas, it is mostly illegal because of the concern that it might damage sand dunes.

  5. Green Laning The mildest type of off-roading. Around places where there are no pavements like jungles. Forest or on the countryside. The biggest problem you would probably get from here are ditches and holes but in this activity, no special equipment is needed.

  6. Rock Crawling The most challenging off-roading activity. Includes driving on rocks and rocky mountainside. Needs concentration on the speed of your vehicle when you are about to drive over or ‘crawl’ on a rock. Precision is also important as well as knowing your vehicles’ angles.

  7. MOMENTUM • Although the mass of your vehicle remains the same, the speed always changes. So know when to accelerate or decelerate and land effectively in whatever surface. • ANGLES • There are three angles that you should be concerned with : Approach angle ; Break-over angle; Departure angle • TRACTION • Traction is the ‘grip’ of your vehicle’s tires on a surface. It depends on the type of tire you are using as well as its air pressure and size. • FRICTION & GRAVITY • likely to be the cause of your vehicle at stopping. Offroading Physics

  8. Different Vehicle Types

  9. SUV – Sport Utility Vehicles Mostly likely used for off-roading activities. Originally built on truck platforms but now they are mostly built on car platforms.

  10. ATV – All Terrain Vehicles Most effective and safest vehicle when driving on sand dunes and barren deserts. Descended from All-terrain cycles.

  11. UTV – utility-Terrain Vehicles Mild platform that can be used on any flat surface such as snow, mud and can even be used for green landing. It is also fully equipped for carrying a variety of equipment.
