  1. TBEAR How To Write An Awesome Body Paragraph

  2. What is TBEAR? • TBEAR is a structure for writing a body paragraph for an essay. • It is made up of the five most important aspects of a strong body paragraph. • These five parts are what teachers will be looking for when they grade your essays in middle school, high school, and college.

  3. What are the five parts? • T: Topic Sentence • B: Buildup Information • E: Evidence • A: Analysis • R: Restatement of Topic Sentence

  4. T: Topic Sentence • The topic sentence is the first part of your paragraph. • Not only does it tell the reader what the paragraph is going to be about, it states what part of your thesis you are proving. One of the parts of The Circuit that stood out the most to me was how little the migrant workers were paid. One sobering aspect of the life of a migrant worker in “The Circuit” by Francisco Jimenez is how little the migrant workers are paid.

  5. B: Buildup Information • This gives the reader some context for your evidence, and clarifies what you mean in your topic sentence. • What is it the reader has to know before you give your evidence? In the story, Panchito, the narrator, and his father and older brother, work twelve hour days, picking crops in the field for a very small amount of money. In the story the narrator, Panchito, his father, and older brother, work twelve hour days, picking crops in the field for a meager amount of money.

  6. E: Evidence • This is where you give proof, examples, details, and quotes from the text to support your point. • When you write a research paper, this is the information you cite! After a day of work, Panchito's father counts out the amount of money that the three of them have earned for a day of work, and sadly announces the number of "quince," or fifteen, dollars.

  7. A: Analysis • Why is the evidence important? • What is your opinion on the situation? • Describe to the reader how your evidence proves your point. I found this to be extremely low, because when you divide fifteen by the three workers, you find that they only made five dollars each for a day of work. Even in a time when money went a lot further, that is still a very meager sum of money. In fact after twelve hours of back breaking labor in 100 degree temperature, three people earned fifteen dollars or five dollars each. Even in a time when money went much further, that is still a pathetic sum of money.

  8. R: Restate • Restate the topic sentence in a different way. • What was the main idea you just proved? This shows that some of the hardest workers are the ones who are paid the least. To sum up, although the migrant workers perform extraordinary physical labor, they are paid shockingly low wages.

  9. All parts combined… One of the parts of The Circuit that stood out the most to me was how little the migrant workers were paid. In the story, Panchito, the narrator, and his father and older brother, work twelve hour days, picking crops in the field for a very small amount of money. After a day of work, Panchito's father counts out the amount of money that the three of them have earned for a day of work, and sadly announces the number of "quince," or fifteen, dollars. Even in a time when money went a lot further, that is still a very meager sum of money. This shows that some of the hardest workers are the ones who are paid the least.
