  2. What is Circle of Friends? • It is a social organization for ALL students at Ankeny High School. • The goal is to form lasting relationships between students with special needs and their peers. • Through these peer to peer relationships, students gain social skills and make new friends. • An unwritten goal is to allow students with disabilities to be able to do things they may not otherwise be able to do.

  3. How We Do It • These relationships are fostered through fun social situations that can not be provided during the school day. • Monthly events are planned through student input & suggestions. • Activities are low or no cost.  No student is turned away for inability to pay.

  4. We require permission slips of all students, regardless of age. All students must ride school provided transportation. Attendance is not mandatory at all events--students may choose which events they wish to attend. Seniors who attend three or more events earn a "Friendship Award" at senior awards night. Details

  5. Grants- Ankeny School Foundation and Perky Hawk Coffee Shop. Donations- From Ankeny Optimist Club and other organizations. Collection of Boxtops to be turned in for cash. Circle of Friends subsidizes the cost of events so that they are more affordable for students.  Example: Adventureland Tickets cost $14 each and the students pay only $7.  Average event costs the club about $75 - Larger events cost between $200 and $300, depending on attendance.
