  1. Types of Betting Limits in Poker

  2. Introduction Mastering poker game requires understanding how betting works. The ‘betting structure’ is the limit for how much you can bet at your turn to act in a betting round during a hand. There are three types of betting limits in Poker games - 1. No Limit 2. Pot Limit 3. Fixed Limit/Limit

  3. 1. NO LIMIT In these games, there is no cap to bet/raise. You can bet any amount at your turn in a betting round, up to your entire chip stack. The minimum bet is equal to the size of the big blind (BB) and the minimum a player can raise is the amount of the previous bet/raise. . For ex. - You have 300 chips with you on the table. The player before you bets 100. If you call you need to pay 100 and if you want to raise, you can go all-in. At online platforms, most ring game, Sit-n-Go, and MTT (Multi-table tournaments) are played in no-limit format only.

  4. 2. POT LIMIT You cannot bet chips more than the current pot size. For ex. -In a game, the pot size is 300 after the flop round in a hand of 75/150. The player before you bets 150. If you raise, you need to pay 600 (300 starting pot+150 last action+150 size of your call). The total pot size now is 1200. If the next player calls, he needs to put 600 into the pot. The new pot total is 1650 (300 starting pot+150 first player’s bet+600 your bet+600 next player’s call).

  5. 3. FIXED LIMIT You can bet/raise only up to a certain limit. The bet size is fixed and the maximum times a player can raise in a betting round is also limited (usually 4 times). If 4 players have already raised the bet before your turn, you can call or fold but cannot raise. There are two kinds of bet sizes - small and big bet. At Pre-flop and Flop, you can only bet/raise as per the small bet limit. At Turn and River, the raise would be equal to the big bet limit.

  6. Conclusion Although the rules to play are simple, Poker training and practice are required if you want to become a successful player.
