  2. avenge verb uh-veng Avenge means to get even with someone for what they did. A country may avenge the death of their citizens by attacking another they feel is responsible. (v.) to get revenge for, get even for, settle a score; to punish someone or get satisfaction for a wrong or injury retaliate, punish A superhero will avenge the crimes of the villain (bad guy)!

  3. cede verb seed If you cede something, you give it up or surrender it to someone else. If a country loses a war, they generally cede land also. (v.) to give up, surrender; to hand over to another deliver, transfer, yield, concede I surrender. Will I also have to cede my freedom?

  4. deluge noun or verb del-yooj A flood is a deluge of water. A deluge means anything that comes at you in an overwhelming way. (n.) a great flood; a heavy fall of rain; anything that comes in a vast quantity (like a flood); (v.) to flood swamp, inundate A deluge of homework means you are swamped with work!

  5. discretion noun dih-skresh-uhn If you have discretion, it means you have good judgment and will be careful with what you say and do. Discretion can also mean you get to choose.   6. giddy adjective gid-ee If you are giddy, you are extremely happy or silly. You might even be light-headed or dizzy. (adj.) dizzy; light-headed; lacking seriousness faint, frivolous, flighty

  7. impact noun or verb im-pakt or im-pakt When one thing hits another, there is an impact. If something really hits your emotions, it impacts you. (n.) the striking of one object against another; the shock caused by a collision; (v.) to affect, especially forcefully collision, blow, effect When a large asteroid impacts a planet, it leaves a crater.

  8. intimidate verb in-tim-i-deyt If you intimidate someone, you threaten or scare them into doing what you want. If you feel like you can’t do something because it is too hard, you are feeling intimidated. (v.) to make timid or frighten by threats; to use fear to get someone to do (or not to do) something browbeat, hector A bully tries to intimidate other people.

  10. logical adjective loj-i-kuhl If you make a logical decision, you use reason and good sense to decide. The character Mr. Spock from Star Trek was known for his pointy ears and logical thinking. “Live long and prosper.” (adj.) reasonable; making use of reason and good sense rational, sensible, commonsense What do you call someone who makes logical decisions? level-headed

  11. misrepresent verb mis-rep-ri-zent Misrepresent is similar to telling a lie about something. When you misrepresent something or someone, you give false or untrue information. (v.) to give a false or untrue idea falsify, twist, exaggerate Hey! That thing doesn’t work that well. He misrepresented what it can do!

  13. optional adjective op-shuh-nl If something is optional, it does not need to be done. Optional can also mean you have a choice – like the cherry on a sundae. You don’t have to eat it! (adj.) left to one’s own choice; not required voluntary, discretionary Chores are hardly ever optional. They have to be done.

  14. outright adjective or adverb out-rahyt Outright means doing something completely and whole-heartedly. He told an outright lie. He made the whole thing up! (adj.) complete; instantaneous; without reservation, thoroughgoing; (adv.) completely, instantaneously total, out-and-out; utterly, instantly, absolute It was all his idea!

  15. rendezvous verb or noun rahn-dey-voo To rendezvous means to meet up. You ride, and I’ll walk. We can rendezvous at the bridge. (v.) to meet in accordance with a plan; (n.) a meeting by agreement; a meeting place date, assignation

  16. rotund adjective roh-tuhnd Rotund means round and plump. (adj.) rounded and plump; full or rich in sound portly, sonorous That pumpkin is bigger than him. It’s very rotund!

  17. saunter verb or noun sawn-ter To saunter is to take a stroll by walking at an easy, slow pace. (v.) to stroll; walk in an easy, leisurely way; (n.) a stroll ramble, amble; promenade

It also means putting someone or something in a less important role or place.   20. tint noun or verb tint Tint means a shade of color or to add color with dye. You can tint fabric or hair. (n.) a delicate color or hue; a light trace of something; (v.) give color to something; to dye tone, color, stain

  21. variable adjective vair-ee-uh-buhl Variable means something can change like the weather. In a math problem, we usually solve for the variable. (adj.) likely to undergo change; changeable; (n.) a value or quantity that varies; a symbol for such fluctuating, shifting, inconstant Mountain climbers face variable weather conditions that change rapidly.

  22. verge noun or verb vurj If something is about to happen, it is on the verge of happening. I am on the verge of a new discovery! (n.) the point at which something beings or happens; a border; (v.) to incline, tend toward, approach; to be in the process of becoming something else threshold, edge He is on the verge of winning the race.
