  2. Introduction From this presentation you will find out about six metals. These metals are Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Aluminum, and Iron. When the metal was discovered, who discovered it and some of its useful features are all included. An interesting point is that each of these metals are important to the human body, as well as outside uses. Also, it is interesting that many were either discovered or isolated by Sir Humphrey Davey.

  6. Sodium Sodium was discovered in 1806 by Sir Humphry Davey. The symbol for sodium is Na and it comes from the Latin word “natrium” which means hydrated sodium carbonate. A soft and silvery white metal, so soft it is easily cut. Sodium, when exposed to air will rapidly oxidize and it will form a dull, oxide coating. Sodium chloride which is sodium and chloride is a vital need to our diet as it helps balance the liquids in our body. http://www.chemicool.com/elements/sodium.html

  7. Potassium Potassium is an alkali metal and on the Periodic Chart it can be found as K. Just like sodium, it was discovered by Sir Humphry Davey, but it was discovered in 1807. Potassium is a silvery white metal that is non toxic but it is highly reactive. It too is an important part of the human diet. http://www.chemicool.com/elements/potassium.html

  8. Magnesium Magnesium is an alkali earth metal that a Scottish chemist named Joseph Black discovered in 1755 and then first isolated by Sir Humphrey Davey in 1808. It’s symbol is Mg on the Periodic Chart. Magnesium is a highly explosive hazard. Like Sodium and Potassium, Magnesium is a silvery white metal.   9. Calcium Calcium, known as Ca on the periodic chart, was first prepared from lime by the Romans back in the first century with the name of Calx. Later, Sir Humprey Davey isolated it in London in 1808. Calcium is a necessity by many living organisms and it is non toxic.   10. Aluminum Al, Aluminum’s periodic symbol, is a metal. First, aluminum was isolated by Hans Christian Oersted however, it was decomposed to a metal in 1807 or 1808 by Sir Humbphery Davey.   11. Iron Iron is a transition metal that’s symbol on the Periodic Chart is Fe which comes from the Latin word, Ferrum, which means Iron. It is dated back from ancient times. Iron is attracted to metals and it is non toxic. It is also a necessity for the human body, as it helps transport blood throughout the body.   12. Conclusion I noticed that the early 1800s is when most of these metals were discovered or they were isolated around that time. It was evident that Sir Humphrey Davey was working on the isolation of these metals during this time.
