  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [IEEE 802.15.5 WPAN Mesh – Technical Discussion] Date Submitted: [May 14, 2007] Source: [Chunhui Zhu] Company [Samsung] Address [75 W Plumeria Dr. San Jose, CA 95134] Voice:[408-544-5667], FAX: [408-544-5666], E-Mail: [c.zhu@samsung.com] Re: [] Abstract: [This is for the discussion on 802.15.5 low rate WPAN mesh.] Purpose: [for discussion and reference] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. 3. Outline • Reference model • Using link quality as routing matrix • IEEE 802.15.4-2006 (4b) Impact • New Feature Development • MIB attributes – range and default value Chunhui Zhu / Samsung

  4. The 15.5 LR Reference Model • So far we agree to insert the mesh sub-layer between the SSCS and the MAC and keep the interface between the SSCS and the mesh identical to the interface between Mesh and the MAC. • The good thing for this approach is to allow applications developed for the 15.4/4b to work with 15.5 without modifying the applications. In other words, the same primitives are used for both one-hop and multi-hop transmissions. • The bad thing is it has already caused confusions to the implementers. • Suggestion: • Seek expert opinions from 802.15 working group. Chunhui Zhu / Samsung

  5. Using link quality as routing matrix • A 4-bit field is used to describe link cost (16 levels) • It is currently used only for selecting a reliable parent to join; only those with link cost <7 is eligible for being chosen as a parent. • It is not used for routing. • when link quality is used for routing it will generate some impact on the spec, i.e. the routing criteria will be different. • Action item: • Determine the change to the routing algorithm when link quality is used as routing matrix. Chunhui Zhu / Samsung

  6. IEEE 802.15.4-2006 (4b) Impact • We need 4b spec to check out the new PHY channels and the multicast support. • For example, 4b uses the 5 MSBs to indicate channel pages (0,1,2) to support PSSS (10 channel) and O-OPSK (10 channel) in 915 MHz band. Do we need to reflect this change? If not, we can’t claim we support 4b. • Action Item: • If possible, please ask 4b people for a 15.4-2006 spec. What I have is D2 which is obsolete. Chunhui Zhu / Samsung

  7. New Feature Development • Portability/Mobility • ETRI and CUNY? • Low Power Mesh/End Device • ETRI? • Action item: • Check the status. Chunhui Zhu / Samsung

  8. MIB attributes – range and default value • MIB attributes need to have data range and default values • For some of them I can only guess the value. If someone have better idea on the proper values please feedback to us. • Action item: • Feedback data range and default values. Chunhui Zhu / Samsung
