  1. The orthodontic accessories, sometimes called clamp head accessories, are a device used to eliminate serious bite problems. While the brakes correct the position of the teeth, the orthodontic headgear helps alter the alignment of the jaw. It does so by exerting tension on the braces through hooks, coils, elastic bands and other connectable devices. If you are a parent whose child has been prescribed the use of headgear, know that it is extremely effective for children with severe bite abnormalities. The orthodontic helmet can also be used to increase the space between the teeth. The helmet is most effective when worn between early adolescence and the last years of adolescence. Maintaining the constant use of your helmet will achieve the best results. If the instructions for use are not followed, the treatment will take longer and your treatment plan will have to be changed.

  2. How does it work? The orthodontic headdress is most often used to correct bite alignment problems involving the maxilla (upper jaw) and / or the jaw (lower jaw). Such problems include: > Cross bite, in which the upper and lower teeth do not line up when a person bites > Overbite in which the upper front teeth overlap excessively to the lower front teeth > Lower bite in which the lower front teeth and jaw protrude in front of the upper front teeth >Overjet, commonly known as "rabbit teeth", in which the upper front teeth protrude at an external angle to the lip

  3. Misalignment of the jaw and teeth is known as malocclusion. Some of these conditions may coexist, such as an overbite and a crossbite. An individualized approach is required to correct both at the same time. The orthodontic headgear is used more frequently in children, because their jaws are still developing and can be manipulated. In adults, it is rarely used. For adult patients, headdress is usually prescribed after teeth are removed and, as a result, other teeth begin to move. Orthodontic Headgear
