  1. New Cycling Paths in Singapore’s Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, and Toa Payoh Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been enhancing connectivity in the country under the Islandwide Cycling Network (ICN) programme. LTA is building new cycling paths to maintain a safe and sustainable active mobility landscape. BY 2030, the Government will expand the cycling paths island-wide to around 1,300km so that Singaporeans can travel safely and seamlessly to their destinations while maintaining active lifestyles. New Cycling Paths in Ang Mo Kio, Bishan and Toa Payoh Towns Residents in Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, and Toa Payoh can now cycle more conveniently between and within their towns with the completion of 14.5km of new cycling paths. In Ang Mo Kio, a total of seven kilometres of new cycling paths have been added to the current four kilometres of cycling paths. In Bishan, 4km of the planned 7.7km Bishan Town cycling path network is entering completion. The remaining 3.7km cycling path is expected to be completed in 2023. Toa Payoh, meanwhile, saw a total of 3.5km of cycling paths added to its current transport network. The remaining 5.5km of the path is slated for completion in 2023. Commenting on the same, Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen, said: “With these developments, all of us can do our part to reduce our carbon footprint, and at the same time, improve our own health through walking and cycling as a way of life.” Based on LTA’s annual surveys, Singaporeans agree that the regulatory frameworks which have been implemented have made the country’s paths safer and more convenient for them. As LTA continues to promote the take-up of active mobility through expanding our cycling infrastructure, industry stakeholders like public transport operators are also contributing to the same. As the number of cyclists in Singapore will increase, SMRT Corporation, a leading public transport operator in Singapore, has launched a training programme for bus drivers to raise their awareness of the different groups of road users. At the Singapore Bus Training and Evaluation Centre, SMRT’s trainers have developed videos featuring positive examples of bus drivers demonstrating safe driving practices and showing consideration towards cyclists. SMRT CEO, Ngien Hoon Ping, said: “We will continue to contribute towards sustainable communities in our role as a public transport operator, by transporting commuters efficiently and making our network more inclusive for commuters. We will also align our growth efforts with businesses that generate value for us and the communities around us.” SMRT CEO further added: “We will continue to capitalise on our sense of ownership and accountability to drive innovation in two key areas of focus: safety and sustainability.” Conclusion The new cycling paths will provide stronger first-and-last-mile connectivity to mass rapid transit (MRT) stations. However, LTA noted that creating space for new infrastructure in mature towns
