  1. The Roush Report Track 1, Second Grade August 18 , 2014 Parent Teacher Conferences I am looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s first quarter progress. Conferences are scheduled for 15 min so it is very important for you to arrive at your scheduled time. If you have any specific questions or concerns that you want to make sure we address, it is helpful to email me your questions ahead of time to ensure we address your concerns. If you feel you will need additional time, I will be more than happy to schedule a conference at an alternate time. Important Dates Aug 25 – Scholastic books orders due Aug 25 – Picture Day  Sept. 5 – Track Out Scholastic Books This week our first scholastic book order are coming home. These brochures have excellent choices of “just right” books for your child to read. You may either order books by returning the order form along with a check made out to Scholastic books to me or you may also order online going to www.scholastic.com/readingclub. Enter the class activation code :  GPBQP Ordering books not only is an excellent an easy way to get books for your child, each order also gives the class bonus points to order books and supplies for the classroom. Curriculum Corner Math: We are to continuing work on addition and subtractions within 100 to solve one and two step word problems. We will be identifying odd and even numbers and explore further how using doubles strategies can help solve other types of problems..  Reading: Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its main idea, new vocabulary and key details. Students will also continue to practice identify rhythm in text and create alliterations. Writing: We will continue to work on writing narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure. Science: We will begin our unit on liquids and solids. We will begin by identify attributes of a solid and sorting by various rules.

From WCPSS Risk Management Department:  Parents can enroll their child in Voluntary Student Accident Insurance coverage by completing and mailing an application and check to Bollinger for processing coverage.  Coverage will be effective the date they sign the application and no sooner than July 1, 2014. Applications can be picked up in the front office or downloaded from this website: http://www.wcpss.net/parents/insurance.html.  • Volunteers • I am so lucky that many of you have expressed interest in volunteering in our classroom. I sent out a sign-up genius last week for both small group help and clerical. I am so fortunate that almost all of the time slots were filled.
