  1. “THE PROPHETS’ MESSAGE… TO US!!”

  2. The applications of these principles… • Even in nations that are not God’s people in the Old Testament… • When these things we are going to talk about prevailed in that nation… • Then that nation was in trouble before God, and that nation would pay the price • God was not only concerned about Israel in the Old Testament

  3. The things we want to note… • The principles that the prophets brought forth that are a detriment to any kingdom… if we have those, then that spells trouble for us as a nation. • We as a people who are God’s children, we want to make sure we aren’t partaking in the sins of our society. • The following are some characteristics that the prophets dealt with that seem particularly applicable to our society.

  4. In our society - There is no delight in God’s word! • Jeremiah 6 • Isaiah 30 • Deuteronomy 30 • Ephesians 3

  5. 2Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV • “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

  6. The Word is accessible… • Romans 10:8 “But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach)” • Jeremiah 5:30-31 • Isaiah 6…

  7. What will be end for those who abandon God? • Jeremiah 6:19 “Hear, O earth! Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people-- The fruit of their thoughts, Because they have not heeded My words, Nor My law, but rejected it.” • Romans 1… • Amos 5:10 “They hate the one who rebukes in the gate, And they abhor the one who speaks uprightly.”

  8. “Everyone deals falsely…” • Luke 12:15 And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” • Jeremiah 6:13 "Because from the least of them even to the greatest of them, Everyone is given to covetousness; And from the prophet even to the priest, Everyone deals falsely.”

  9. The Prophet Amos… • Amos 2:6-7… a completely debauched society • Amos 3:15… that great society will come down • Amos 4:1… talking about the rich • Amos 6:3-6… recreation overshadowing spiritual things

  10. We need to pray… • 1Timothy 2:1 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

  11. We need to pray… • Jeremiah 7:16 "Therefore do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, nor make intercession to Me; for I will not hear you. 17 Do you not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18 The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger. 19 Do they provoke Me to anger?" says the Lord. "Do they not provoke themselves, to the shame of their own faces?”

  12. Habakkuk 3:16-19 • When God reaps; He may very well reap His own children. • Our prayer needs to be, that God will be glorified; and that He will sustain us spiritually! • If you are a faithful child of God, then you can find security in that. • If you are not a faithful Christian, you are not secure.
