  3. Olympics… ‘The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is the largest most complex machine in the world, possibly the universe. By smashing particles together at enormous energies, it recreates the conditions of the Big Bang. The recent discovery of what looks like the “Higgs particle” is a triumph of human endeavour and international collaboration. It will change our perception of the world and has the potential to offer insights into a complete theory of everything.’ Stephen Hawking Ian McKellen: The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.

  11. Media planning for LS1 • Calendar of visits provided by us • Duration: 1 or 2 days visit (better 2 days to have time for individual interviews) • Programme: • Day1: • - One hour introduction about CERN and the LS1 (LHC upgrade/last results) • - Visits underground: 2 detectors and the LHC accelerator (normally print press will not see the LHC tunnel – only for visual media) – Exceptional to visit the LHC!!!! • Day2: Individual interviews according to a list of physicists decided in collaboration with Interactions/EPPCN members. • Costs: CERN will pay for meals on CERN site, but accommodation and travel/transport should be organized and paid by Interactions/EPPCN members. • Number of participants: Maximum 24 people (2 groups of 12p.) including accompanying people if they want to go underground as well.
