  1. What is the importance of PYP curriculum? The PYP educational programme is managed by the International Baccalaureate (IB) for students who are between the age group of 3 and 12. This program is meant for preparing students for IB Middle Years Programme; however, it isn’t a prerequisite for the same. In the PYP curriculum, the main subject areas are social studies, language, mathematics, technology, science, arts and personal, social and physical education. During this programme, the students are also taught a second language. As per the strategies provided by the International Baccalaureate, assessment of students is carried out by the teachers. The main aim of the International Baccalaureate is to develop knowledgeable and inquiring individuals who will help in creation of a peaceful and better world through intercultural respect and understanding. The IB works with various international organizations, governments and schools for developing challenging programmes of rigorous assessment and international education. The main philosophy of the PYP curriculum for making students into thinkers, inquirers, risk takers, communicators, principled and well-balanced human beings. There are three important components of the PYP curriculum- how educator teach, how the students learn and the practices and principles of effective assessment within the PYP programme. There are several international schools in Mumbai that offer PYP curriculum. For someone to participate in the IB Primary Years Programme, it is necessary to attend an authorized IB World School. PYP schools are expected to implement the IB programme in an inclusive manner. This is necessary so that all students in all year levels or grades in the primary division of in the school are fully engaged with PYP. There are mainly six “trans-disciplinary themes” under which the written curriculum of PYP is arranged- who we are, where we are in place and time, how we express ourselves, how the world works, sharing the planet and how we organize ourselves.
