  2. Why start a fire? 1. Wildlife depend on fires for reproduction 2. Promotes ecological succession 3. Allows forest to grow rather than disintegrate

  3. PrescribedBurningvs. Wildfires • Controlled Fires • Wildfires 1. Uncontrollable/ Unpredictable • Careful watch and research on animals prior to burning. 2. Burn specific area at a time so that the entire forest is not destroyed. • Could wipe out an endemic species. 3. Eliminates disease and/or invasive species that are harmful to others. (ex. Animals, humans) 3. Killing animals unintentionally. 4. Under the watchful eye of scientist and firefighters who have been intricately planning this event.

  4. Restoration Factors • Reducing hazardous fuels • Less pollution • Recycling of nutrients and the availability of wildlife habitat
