2. History of the periodic Table • Skim through section 1 looking for important events that occurred at the following dates: • 1860 (September 1860) • 1869 • 1911 • Early 1900s (both groups)

3. Important People • Again, skim through section 1 and look for the important contributions of the following individuals: • Cannizzaro • Mendeleev • Moseley • Rayleigh, Ramsay, and Dorn

4. Mendeleev vs Moseley The original periodic table was not organized the way that our modern periodic table was organized. Contrast Mendeleev’s periodic table and Moseley’s periodic table.

5. Periodicity Finally, look at the graphic on p.136. Use this graphic and the text beside it to describe the concept of periodicity.

7. Reading articles – compare/contrast • We will read the 2 articles together (Element Hunters and Meet 115) and underline important information, etc. • Your task will be to write an essay comparing/contrasting the following: • The authors’ different perspectives in writing • The difference in quality of content • The reason for the format of each article • At the end of your essay, explain which article is more useful for a chemistry student to use to better understand how new elements are created.
