  1. What are the Different types of Stethoscopes used in Medical Practices today?

  2. Introduction A stethoscope is acoustic medical equipment that is used for listening to the internal sounds in the human body. Typically it is made of a small disc shaped resonator and two tubes connected to the ear pieces. Mainly it is used to listen to lung and heart sounds by placing the disc against the chest. It can also be used to listen to the sounds from the intestine and arteries and veins. When used in combination with a sphygmomanometer, it is used for measurement of blood pressure.

  3. Stethoscopes Types Acoustic Acoustic stethoscopes are the most common kinds and are familiar to most people. They operate on the transmission of sound from the chest piece. Air filled hollow tubes to the ear pieces. Electronic An electronic stethoscope overcomes the short comings of the acoustic one by electronically amplifying the sound levels. These types of equipment hence require the conversion of sound waves to electronic signals which are later amplified and processed to make them optimal for listening.

  4. Recording Some stethoscopes use a direct audio output that can be used with external recording device – such as a laptop. In this way you can also compare the current recording with a previously recorded signal and improve your diagnostics. Fetal Fetal stethoscope is an acoustic stethoscope that is used to listen to the sounds of the fetus. It is used to diagnose any abnormalities in pregnant women. Doppler This device is used to measure the Doppler effect of ultrasound waves reflected from the various organs of the body. Motion is detected by the change in frequency. It can be used in dealing with moving objects such as heart beats.
