2. What is Cubism? Today we are going to look at one period in art history called CUBISM. Cubism- abstract style of art that began about a hundred years ago. It did not follow the traditional art style of realism. Artists that worked in this style tried to create new ways of looking at things. Many used different geometric shapes, sometimes showing two or more views of things. Their art often looked like it was fractured or broken into pieces and is often described as “looking like pieces of fractured glass.”

4. Today we are going to look at two artists... Pablo Picasso Picasso is often underappreciated by people who don’t know much about him (like in the case of Ham) but he is best known for co-founding the CUBIST movement and for his wide variety of styles that he used in his art. Before he ever painted abstractly he painted realistically. And throughout his lifetime he created over 20,000 works of art during his career and became one of the most famous artists of his time. He experimented with many different styles and was never afraid to try new things. 7. Paul Klee Paul Klee worked in a few different styles throughout his life but one of them was Cubism. He was born in Switzerland and when he was young he played the violin and also created art. When he became an adult he created many works of art and taught art. Klee was quoted as saying “A line is a dot going for a walk.”

9. Project! You will be creating a portrait bust in Cubism style…but first we will create nametags so that I can get to know you all better! We will use different shapes like Picasso and Klee to create your Cubist nametags!
