  1. Features: • Imperial & Metric Versions. • Verifies known Bushing O.D. & Housing I.D. values thus providing added crucial information such as Interference, Liquid Nitrogen & Dry Ice Shrinkage, Insertion Clearance & Heated Housing Expansion if required based on those input values. • If input values are unknown, sheet 2 allows the user to input an approx. Pin Ø or Housing Ø to start, thus automatically activating toleranced output values for Housing I.D., Bushing O.D., Bushing I.D., Pin O.D. and the before chrome/H.V.O.F. Pin O.D. • Fine tuning will then take place on sheet 1 whereby final values will be based on the final selection of materials, guided by listed remarks to achieve acceptability. • Verifies whether an interference condition could exist between the Pin O.D. vs. Bushing I.D. over working temperature ranges. • This is crucial pre-emptive information whereby the Bushing I.D. may have to be modified thus averting an interference fit when the aircraft is exposed to that required working temperature range . • If rework is required, on sheet 2 input the new Housing I.D. reworked size, thus a new Bushing O.D will be stated where an interference check is to follow. In this case the Bushing I.D. stated is to be ignored because the original values would be retained. Interference Analysis 2K Newly Improved

  4. Let’s say due to loads, a 3” Ø 300M Pin is required. The joint will be greased thru’ the lug, thus the bushing would require inner & outer grooves. The Housing material is 300M & the Bushing material is Alum. Nickel Bronze. Example Step 1. (when Bushing O.D. & Housing I.D. values are unknown)

  7. Resultant Bush O.D., Housing I.D., Interference and ‘Insertion clearance’ provided when ‘Liquid Nitrogen’ is used. Also insertion clearance for ‘Lined Bushings’ whereby ‘Dry Ice’ would be used. If there’s an interference shown at the insertion clearance, the Bush O.D. could be altered to avoid that interference, provided a minimum of .001” interference is maintained for the Bushing O.D. vs. Housing I.D. required working temperature ranges. If 158º is to be the max. temp. considered, then ignore the 194º block that some programs require. Example Step 4.

  8. Select appropriate button and the Pin & Bush I.D. values will be transferred from sheet 2. (Different values can be typed in) • Select buttons to change from Bushing & Housing Material to Pin & Bush./Housing Material and adjust materials selection as req’d. 3) In order to obtain the worst case scenario (Pin lowest clearance or interference), alternate the Bush./Housing material. Then it’s just a matter of increasing the Bushing I.D. to ensure a Pin clearance. “To obtain actuals, refer to the materials expansion & shrinkage rates shown on ‘sheet 2’. Take into account the bushing & housing effects.”(See Actuals) (Contact me if further explanation is required) *(Bushing ‘Al.Ni.Br.’ Effect shown) (See ‘Example Step 6‘ for Housing Effect) Actual * Bushing Effect Resulting clearance between the Pin O.D. vs. Bushing I.D. throughout temperature ranges. Ensure to alternate between the Bush./Housing Material Selection to obtain worst case values (Pin lowest clearance or interference) before Bush I.D. mod. Example Step 5.   10. The Bushing Part Number can be entered. No limit to the quantity of Alpha Numerical characters. The more characters the smaller the size of the characters. Example Step 7.

  16. Final Remarks: This is a very flexible interference analysis program, it allows the user to input known values or modify calculated program values prior to the output. Though it calculates most of the toleranced values automatically and provides guiding remarks to achieve acceptability including control of maximal interference, the nature of material coefficients does have limits and when trying to achieve acceptable interferences in large diameters with certain materials there will be cases where it is not possible to attain an acceptable interference due to various factors. Generally interferences beyond 158ºF./70ºC. are considered special cases. This program provides (as reference only) interference @ 400ºF./204ºC. in the event interferences are required in the brakes vicinity. In conclusion, this program would be an asset to an organization that wants to: 1) Improve accuracy. 2) Improve consistency. 3) Observe all results from only a simple Bushing O.D., Housing I.D. & Materials input. 4) Obtain automatic fit results from an approx. Pin Ø or a Housing Ø input. 5) Modify values on the fly to suit a specific output as the tables adjust automatically. 6) Save many hours on analysis, it would only take minutes to obtain an accurate result.
