  3. A Attendance A successful school experience is the responsibility of the child, the parent and the school.  Your child's progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by daily participation.  Regular attendance without tardiness is a key.

  4. Arrival And Dismissal • Children may not arrive at school before 7:30 am. The bell that dismisses them from the cafeteria rings at 8:00 am. The tardy bell rings at 8:15 am. If your child arrives in the classroom after this time, a tardy slip will be needed. • Walkers will be dismissed to the cafeteria at approximately 3:05. They will be escorted to the gazebo where you may pick them up. Car riders will be dismissed to the cafeteria at approximately 3:05. Bus riders will be dismissed at approximately 3:20. You may not come to the classroom to pick your child up. • If your child is scheduled to be a walker, pick-up or a bus rider and you need to change this, a phone call will not be acceptable. You must write a note or come to the school. You will NOT be able to call the school and make this change!!!!

  5. B • Backpack • Your child will need to bring a backpack to school each day. (preferably no wheels)

  6. Baggie • Please send all money in your child’s baggie. Please label what it is for. If it is not labeled, we will send it to the cafeteria to be put on your child’s lunch account. If labeled, we will make sure it goes to the appropriate place. All correspondence from you to me or from me to you needs to be placed in your child’s baggie. If there are any notes sent home from the office they will be in this baggie. Please send this baggie to school every day! The baggie is important! The baggie will be inside your child’s blue folder, which needs to be returned each day also.

  7. Breakfast • If you would like for your child to eat breakfast at school in the morning, the cost is $1.00. Please send all cafeteria money in your child’s baggie or pay it directly to the cafeteria.

  8. Bus If your child would like to ride the bus to school, you may want to consider it. It is easier for some children if the good-byes are said at home in the morning. The bus gives them a chance to visit with children they do not see often. It is already warm in winter!

  9. C • Calendars • You will receive a calendar each month to inform you of the breakfast and lunch menu for that month.

  10. D • Discipline Our class members will need to work together so that all students can learn as much as possible. We will work on learning our school rules every day until they are comfortable with them. I will begin sending you a daily report of behavior in September.

  11. E • Emergency Cards • Please fill out your child’s emergency card as soon as possible and return it to school. These will be filed in the office in case they are needed.

  12. Emergency Closings • Sometimes due to weather, school will be dismissed early or closed. The easiest way to check the school schedule for that day is to call 988-8046 and listen to the recording.

  14. Fire Drills • We will be having regular fire drills and learning fire safety. This would be great to practice at home also.

  15. Friends • Your child will be with lots of friends this year. Some old friends, some new friends, but all great friends!

  16. Guidance • Our Guidance Counselor is Mrs. Jessee. The children will get to have class with her once a week. Mrs. Jessee is always available to help with problems. She teaches the children lots of good lessons.

  17. G • Gym • Mr. Altizer is our gym teacher. The children will get to have gym with him once a week. Your child needs to wear tennis shoes on gym day and on Friday. I will provide you with a schedule so you will know when our class has gym.

  19. Homeroom Parents • I will need two people to organize all of our parties and events this year. You will not be responsible for providing everything we need, but you will be responsible for calling other parents that would like to help and informing them of what we need.

  20. Homework I will be sending homework (in the blue folder), but not for a while and based on the need for it. I will let you know when you need to begin watching for it.

  21. I • Illness • If your child is sick and needs to be absent, I will put any work that we do in his or her desk. Please do not send your child to school with a fever! Please send a written excuse from you or your child’s doctor .

  22. J • Jacket The temperature in our classroom tends to change several times a day. A light jacket is great for keeping comfortable.

  23. K • Keys to A Successful Year • The Keys to a successful school year include good communication between home and school, a positive attitude, homework turned in on time and good attendance.

  24. L • Library • Mrs. Matneyis our librarian. The class gets to go to library once a week.

  25. Lunch • You may purchase lunch in the cafeteria, or you may pack a lunch with a drink. If you would like for your child to purchase a drink instead of sending one there are several to choose from. You can put money on your child’s account for extra items in the cafeteria. • If you purchase a tray for your child, the cost is $1.75. You may prepay for as many lunches as you would like. Lunch money needs to be sent in the baggie or paid directly to the cafeteria. Please do not give lunch money to your child anywhere but in the baggie.

  26. Music • Mrs. Henderson is our music teacher. She helps our children with several productions throughout the school year. They get to visit with Mrs. Henderson once a week.

  27. N • Nurse • Our school nurse is Mrs. Lowe. She is always ready to fix boo-boos!

  28. Naps • We don’t get to take any of these.

  29. Nametags • Please have your child wear his/her nametag to school for the first full week. The afternoon schedule will be noted on this as well as a lunch number.

  30. O • Office • If you have any questions that I cannot answer, you can probably find the answer in the office. Becky and Kelly in the office can answer most questions.

  31. P • Parent Teacher Conferences • We will have parent/teacher conferences on October 7 and March 7, from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Please plan to attend to discuss your child’s progress.

  32. Playground • If it is warm outside, we will play on the playground most days. There are playground rules that will be explained to your child to ensure that everyone plays safely. Please dress your child appropriately.

  33. Parties And Celebrations We will be having several parties throughout our school year. You will be notified of the parties that parents may attend. On some holidays, we will not have a party; we will have a “special” snack.

  35. Questions? • If you have any questions at any time, feel free to send me a note, call me, or email me.

  36. R • Report Cards are sent home every 9 weeks. Please work on any skills your child has not mastered.

  37. Restrooms We have a bathroom in our classroom your child will be allowed to go when needed.

  38. Rules • All students will be expected to follow our school rules.

  39. S • Snack • We will have snack time each day in the afternoon. You may purchase ice cream for your child’s snack or you may send a snack. Ice cream cost is .75 cents each. You may prepay for as many days as you would like.

  40. Songs • We sing lots of songs in kindergarten. Lots of them are by Dr. Jean. It would be great to have these at home also!

  41. T • Time • Just a little bit of time can make a big difference in how well your child progresses.

  42. U • Understanding • It takes lots of understanding when you are working with children as I am sure you already know. • Please be understanding with the teacher also. (that’s me)

  43. V • Volunteers • We will need volunteers throughout the school year. Please let me know if you are available to volunteer by filling out the volunteer form and returning it.

  44. W • Words • Your child will be reading lots of words by the end of this school year.

  45. X • Excited • I am very excited to have your child in my class. I know we are going to have a great year!

  46. Y • You • Please remember that you are your child's first and most important teacher. No one can influence your child's life in the way that you can!

  47. Z • Z is for zoom! Sit back and watch your child's skills take off! You will be amazed and surprised at the changes this year.

  48. What can you do to help your child? • Read, read, read everyday! • 20 minutes!
