Maths @ Ardleigh Green Junior School Overview of Maths • Maths is taught for an hour each day across all year groups • In addition to this pupils will also spend time using RM Maths and Mathletics programs • Each weekly lesson plan has an ICT activity included that matches the week’s objective

  3. Maths @ Ardleigh Green Junior School Overview of Maths • Pupils are grouped in their classes by ability • At times a teaching assistant may support a particular group of pupils in their work • Pupils practice mental maths, times tables and division facts regularly

Maths @ Ardleigh Green Junior School The Lesson • Each lesson consists of 3 main parts:- • - Mental/Oral – 10/15 minutes • - Introduction and main activity – 35/40 minutes • - 10 minutes plenary • The mental oral is designed to get pupils thinking mathematically. It may or may not be linked to the main activity • The class teacher then introduces the main activity • and pupils will work independently, with the class • teacher or another adult, as required • During the plenary the teacher will go over the main • points of the lesson to check for understanding
