Safety. Following are notes on general lab safety, proper dress for the lab and accident procedures. General Safety. Never work in the lab without a teacher present. Follow ALL instructions carefully. ONLY do things the teacher tells you to. No food or drink is allowed in the lab.

  1. Safety Following are notes on general lab safety, proper dress for the lab and accident procedures.

  2. General Safety • Never work in the lab without a teacher present. • Follow ALL instructions carefully. • ONLY do things the teacher tells you to. • No food or drink is allowed in the lab. • No gum allowed either • Avoid wearing your contacts on lab days.

  3. General Safety Continued • Act responsibly and maturely in the lab. • HANDS OFF others at all times. • Keep work area clean and uncluttered. Only have materials out that you need. • Dispose of all waste in the appropriate place (as instructed by the teacher). • Make sure that all equipment is unplugged at the end of the lab.

  4. Continued • Return all equipment to the appropriate place, or as instructed by the teacher. • Know where all safety equipment is located. Only use safety equipment if an accident occurs.

  5. Lab Apparel Concerns • Do not wear loose fitting sleeves, skirts etc. or open toe shoes. • Hair that is long enough to be put in an elastic must be put back in one. • Safety goggles are required for some labs and should stay on the whole time. • Lab aprons or gloves are sometimes required and should stay on the whole time.

  6. Accident Procedures • Report all accidents or injuries to the teacher IMMEDIATELY, even if you think it’s no big deal. • Should you come in contact with any chemicals be sure to go to the sink immediately to rinse with cold water. • The eye wash station is used for materials getting into your eyes; rinse for at least 15 minutes.

  7. Accident Procedures Continued • Clean up all spills IMMEDIATELY. • Use a broom and dust pan to clean up broken glass and dispose of it in the proper container.
