  41. Israel’s Condition • Corruption in Israel was worsening • The people had become ignorant of God’s laws • They were playing the role of a harlot • They were paying homage to the Baals • They took pride in being the historic people of God • This privilege was conditional upon their keeping God’s covenant • They were now violating it and were at risk

  46. God’s Unfaithful Nation (2:2-23) • The comparison between Gomer and Israel • Israel would be a disgrace • Israel sought new lovers in the Baalim “She will chase her lovers,  But not overtake them;  Yes, she will seek them, but not find them.  Then she will say,  ‘I will go and return to my first husband,  For then it was better for me than now.’” (Hosea 2:7)

  47. God’s Unfaithful Nation (2:2-23) • The comparison between Gomer and Israel • Israel would be a disgrace • Israel sought new lovers in the Baalim • Israel had corrupted the feast days ” I will also cause all her mirth to cease, Her feast days, Her New Moons, Her Sabbaths—     All her appointed feasts.” (Hosea 2:11)

  50. God’s Unfaithful Nation (2:2-23) • God’s mercy • God would lure her back • Then, she will be purged of her wickedness  ”For I will take from her mouth the names of the Baals,     And they shall be remembered by their name no more.” (Hosea 2:17)
