Motivation for ATTRACT • Understand how engineering professionals are viewed in different European countries; • Compare different student recruitment systems and analyse their results; • Identify new ways of attracting students for: • science and technology; • IST; • Improve student learning experiences and outcomes.

Recruitment of students • Students are recruited for public HE through a national contest; • Changes in secondary education (general vs vocational) tend to reduce the number of candidates with usual access qualifications; • From 2012/2013, all candidates to engineering programmes must have completed Mathematics at 12th year level (this has always been a requirement at IST, but not in all HEIs).
