“It will be observed that the plural form is used here – baptisms. There aretwo baptismswhose necessity is taught by the Christian religion – baptism bywater, and by theHoly Ghost: the first of which is an emblem of the second.”

BUT:Acts 8:12-17– Water baptism wasbeforethey received the Holy Spirit!

Baptism

  • Baptize(baptizo): “dip, submerge, immerse”

    “…used among the Greeks to signify the dyeing of a garment, or the drawing of water by dipping a vessel into another…” (Vine)

    • Requires “much water” – Jno. 3:23

    • A burial – Col. 2:12

    • Going down into & coming up out of water – Acts 8:38-39
