  2. Background Purpose of the project Human activities in the catchment area and on the sea are influencing marine ecosystems. It is necessary to define good environmental status, to evaluate the initial status of the sea and to develop a plan to reach or maintain good environmental status of the marine area for promotion of preserving and sustainable use of marine ecosystems.

  4. Deliveries The ultimate aim of the project Current project will produce the programme of measures for Estonian marine area following the requirements of the MSFD. Those measures shall be devised on the basis of the initial assessment of the Estonian marine area and by reference to the environmental targets established and taking into consideration the types of measures listed in the Annex VI of the Directive.

Deliveries The ultimate aim of the project The project is to improve the management systems in the field of marine and inland water policies that are governed and coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment. The pre-defined nature of the project allows involving all relevant institutions to participate in the project and make the results of the projects directly operational.

Stakeholders and beneficiaries Who benefits from the project *Ministry of the Environment (protection of the marine environment) *Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications (ports) *Ministry of the Interior(MSP) *Ministry of Agriculture (fisheries, agriculture) *Ministry of Education and Research(research and science). Institutions implementing the PoM and influenced by PoM: The Environmental Board, The Environmental Agency, Estonian Maritime Administration, ports, also fishermen, coastal municipalities, coastal companies etc. Different NGO’s (Estonian Fund for Nature, Estonian Council of Environmental NGOs etc).

Public participationMeasures for making the results publicly available*passive measures – documents are public and available to everyone through project leader and -partners; *active measures – information is forwarded through different channels: internet, booklets, face-to-face meetings, workshops, seminars, correspondence etc.Public participation and notifications will take place according to set project activities timeschedule:every actvity will end with an end-seminar/roundtable/other introducing the outcomes/findings/other to stakeholders.
