  3. COAG Initiative • The overall objective of the Fast-Track Apprenticeships Program is to increase the number of qualified tradespeople in industries experiencing skill shortages. • How? • Train More Apprentices • Train Apprentices Faster • The Time Component Removed

  4. Increasing the numbers • Existing Employees without formal qualifications • Mature Age Apprentices • Entice others into the trade or back to the trade • More Women • More “professional bound” applicants

  5. Why would they? • Faster access to qualifications • Faster access to higher wages • Mature age wages (subsidised) • Less time in apprenticeship • Business ownership aspirations • Shorter time, rewards achievement • Other incentives

  6. Employers needs • Not for everyone • Negotiated up front • Government Subsidies • Better quality applicant • Less attrition • Higher level skills earlier • More productive, sooner • More diverse workforce • Increased pool of skills to draw from
