  1. Input Devices: • Manual Input Devices: enter data into computer by hand • Direct Data Entry Devices: transfer information automatically from a source document such as form or barcode into the computer

  2. Manual Input Devices • Keyboard: QWERTY keyboard, Concept Keyboard • Pointing Devices: Touch Screen, Light Pen, Mouse, Tracker Ball, Touch Pad and Joystick

  3. Manual Input Devices • Graphics Capture: Graphics Tablet, Scanner, Digital Camera and Video Digitizer • Sound Capture: Voice Recognition, Microphone • Sensors: Temperature, Light, Pressure, pH etc.

  4. Direct Data Entry Devices • Code Numbers: Bar Codes, Magnetic Ink character Recognition, Magnetic Stripe Codes and Smart Cards • Optical Input Methods: Optical Mark Recognition, Optical Character Recognition and Turnaround Documents

  5. Output Devices • Visual Display Unit: Normal Monitors and Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) (use RGB) • Printer: Daisy-wheel, Dot Matrix, Ink-Jet, Laser, Braille, and Graphics Plotter (use CMY) • Speaker • Light-emitting Diode (LED)

  6. Question: Why doesn’t printer use the three primary colors: red, green and blue (RGB)? Answer: Green “Ink” absorbs Red and Blue and reflect Green light when white light (W=R+G+B) is shining on it (W-R-B=G). Similarly, W-B-G=R and W-R-G=B. If we mix Red and Green inks, all three colors will be absorbed, no light is reflected and it will appears black: R+G=(W-B-G)+(W-B-R)=w-B-G-R=W-W
