Exploring the properties of 2D and 3D shapes Using money in the class shop. Time, months of the year, days of the week Measures-exploring non-standard units Learn songs and poems about the weather. Use instruments to represent weather sounds. Making snowmen, snowflakes and penguins to create classroom displays. Creating dances in response to music using winter weather as a stimulus. Changing the role play area using ch’n’s ideas. Painting, collage and modelling with a range of materials Children will be encouraged to enter school independently and organise their belongings. Circle time activities will develop good listening skills and turn taking. We will talk about taking responsibility for our actions and making good choices, healthy eating and lifestyles. We will discuss caring for living things. R.E: Special People, family, friends. Physical Development Theme: Who loves Winter weather? Year : Reception Term: Autumn 2013 Simple games to extend ways of travelling initially on hands and feet and then other parts of the body. Using low-level apparatus to develop travelling and climbing skills. Maintaining an understanding of spatial awareness and beginning to work with a partner. Learning to vary speed and change direction with increasing control. Ch’n will use ribbons and large mark making equipment and malleable materials to help develop the skills needed for writing. Communication/Literacy Stories and poems about different types of winter weather. Stories by the same author (Mick Inkpen) Development of vocabulary and speaking and listening skills through role play. Writing connected with stories, role play and practical experiences. Shared and guided reading with a range of stories and poems. Regular practise of Phonics and use in word building for reading and spelling. Regular practise of correct letter formation. Knowledge and Understanding of the World Forest School Keeping a daily weather record, learning the symbols used to represent different types of weather. Experiments with ice – freezing and melting. Finding out about creatures and people who live in cold places and how they survive in the winter. Sorting appropriate clothing for different types of weather, discussing the properties of the materials used. Looking for seasonal changes in FS area. Exploring the environment using objects we find to create art or make models. Comparing colours that help us to hide. Collecting fuel for our kettle- what will burn?
