  3. About the Convention • It was the first women’s rights convention in American History. • 300 men and women attended the meeting

  4. Anti slavery convention • The anti slavery convention of 1840 sparked a fire in women after Lucrettia Mott was denied entry into the convention after being selected as a representative because she was a woman.

  6. Born in Massachusetts • Quaker Minister • Hated slavery and made anti slavery speeches • She was selected as a representative for the anti-slavery convention of 1840, but wasn’t allowed to attend because she was a female.

  7. Elizabeth Stanton

  8. Born in Johnstown, New York in 1815 • Had 11 brothers and sisters • Well educated • Even though she was well educated she wasn’t accepted into a college because she was a woman. Her brother was accepted even though she was smarter.

Declaration of Sentiments • This convention led to the signing of the Declaration of Sentiments. 100 of the 300 people in attendance signed this document. • Gave women more rights in everyday life. • It changed a part of the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration said that all men are created equal. The Declaration of Sentiments says that all men and women are created equal.
