  2. Purpose • To support ACPS levers – TPA, FQL and PLC work • Mission:  To support the continuous improvement of curriculum, assessment, and instruction by working together with teachers to actualize professional goals.

  3. New Structures Instructional Coaching Model Divison led, school-based Lead Coaches and Instructional Coaches formed into teams to support teachers, principals and each other. Vertical Teams All schools have representatives on content teams that support division projects and initiatives as determined by each Vertical Team and central staff.

Typical Week for an Instructional Coach Fall 2009 • Monday – meeting initiated by a teacher interested in other ways of organizing their classroom; model the use of instructional technology at the teacher’s request • Tuesday – cluster meeting including instructional coaches, lead coaches, and principals; followup with teacher from last week’s observation; meet with a novice teacher to listen • Wednesday – sit with a PLC team as they look at their assessment data; meet with a teacher to brainstorm ideas regarding alternative assessments • Thursday – work with a teacher to determine next steps for students in creating a digital portfolio; co-teach a lesson developed by teacher and coach (reflection occurs next Monday); attend faculty meeting after school at principals request • Friday – Instructional Coach development which includes team meetings and professional development

  8. Vertical Teams • All content areas – mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, performingarts, visual arts, physical education, world languages • Specialty areas – Guidance Counselors, Gifted Resource Teachers, Diversity Resource Teachers, Media Specialist, Career and Tech Education, ESOL, Special Education
