  2. NCSU Initiated "3+X" Program with Zhejiang University • Now Many Other U.S. Universities Have Followed

  3. 3+X Program with Zhejiang University • BS and Master combo –accelerated master degree • program at NC State • 3 years in ZJU and one plus years at NC State • Finish all graduate course requirements (30-36 hrs) for a professional master degree in selected fields • BS degree from ZJU + Master of XX from NC State

  4. 3+X Program with Zhejiang University • Take advantage of ZJU’s excellent • undergraduate education and • capture the best students • Promote graduate programs for NC • State University • No credit transfer or accreditation issues • All pay out-state tuition to NC State for courses • Most finish master’s degrees in 3-4 semesters • Best way to evaluate them for English/other qualifications • Most continue PhD at NC State or other universities • Mutual benefits and further strengthen the partnership • of two universities and lead to develop other programs

Challenges • Strong competition from MSU and UC Davis for the same cohort of applicants • Reduced number of initial & complete applications due to other similar programs with higher rankings • Fewer enrolled students due to our high number of denials in our more competitive departments Opportunities • Great way to recruit high quality PhD students if your goal is to increase number of doctoral students and research capacity • Reduce burden on GSSP and limited departmental funds since students are self-paying at the master’s level • Students are ready for doctoral research (English ability, research skills, familiarity with campus, etc) • Need to add more programs on the list to attract more applications
