  3. Called for freer and better relations with other religions. • Began ecumenical movement with other churches • Reinforced traditional RCC teachings of celibate priests, maintained prohibition on contraception, opposed female priests

  4. Religion in the 20th Century • By 2005 only 21% of Euros believed that religion is “very important”. • By 2004 only 15% of Euros attended church regularly.
