  1. Promote Healthier Communities The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is seeking organizations to partner with in expanding the reach of Cooking Matters curriculum in North Carolina. With support from IFFS, Satellite Partners will organize and lead courses for low-income populations in their communities. Taught by chefs and nutritionists, Cooking Matters is an interactive nutrition education program that teaches families how to get the most nutrition on a limited budget. These courses provide a long-term strategy to address hunger by ensuring that families can prepare nutritious meals that are balanced, tasty, and economical. • Cooking Matters courses: • Provide practical, hands-on cooking experience • Are tailored to adults, families, kids, and teens in 6-week sessions • Are offered in English and Spanish • Mobilize local culinary and nutrition professionals to teach as volunteers • Cover topics such as: • USDA MyPlate guidelines • Healthy eating habits • Food shopping and budgeting • Menu planning • Kid and family-friendly recipes • Provide adult participants with take-home groceries to try recipes at home After a course, graduates reported: 66% ate more vegetables 65% ate more fruits 61% ate more whole grains 89% improved cooking skills 99% recommend the course Contact our Satellite Partner Coordinator if you are interested in learning more: cm.satellites@foodshuttle.org (919) 250-0043 ext. 3941 www.FoodShuttle.org (919) 250-0043
