  3. Describing To ask learners who have been successful learning a L2 how they did it. It has been used and provided some valuable insights. To fond out what learners actually do, as oppesed to what they think the do, when they try to learn L2 What are the goals of SLA?

  4. Explaining internal factors1. the social milieu in which learning take place2. the input that learners receive, that is, the sample of language to which a learner is exposed

  5. external factors1. cognitive mechanisms2. general knowledge about the world 3. communication strategies

  6. It is also possible that learners are equipped with the knowledge of how language in general works an that this help them to learn a particular language. A grammatical example:Joan wanted Mary to help herself

  7. To describe how L2 acquisition proceeds To explain the process and why some learners seem to be better at it than others. Can be conclude that The goals of SLA are :

  8. I. A case of an adult learner an artist(33), a native speaker of Japanese Succeed in using -ing form, i.e : All day I’m sitting table but Supply the form in a non-required form, i.e : So yesterday i didn’t painting Two cases of study

  9. II. A case study of two child learners

  10. Both learners : successfully performing simple requests manifested development requests seemed formulaic in nature progressed in much the same way Result

  11. What is need to be described • Issue concerns what is means to say that a leaner has acquired a feature of target language • measure wether acquisition has taken place concerns overuse of linguistic forms Methodological issues

  12. Learners make different kinds of errors Wes grammatical J  language functions Issues in The Description of Learner Language

  13. L2 learners acquired a large number of formulaic chunks, which they use to perform communicative functions that are important to them and which contribute to the fluencyof their unplanned speech

  14. Learners do acquired aspects of an SLA systematically, moreover they follow particular developmental routes with some features being acquired by others.

  15. Leaners must engage in both item learning and system learning • Explanation : • That learners follow a particular developmental pattern • The importance of external as opposed to internal factors Issues in the explaining of L2 acquisition
