  5. plaited (adj) braided Meg’s yellow hair was usually tightly plaited and pinned up so as not to hang in the milk or become tangled in the butter churn. When she was at the wedding, her hair was plaited beautifully down her back. To look more showy, she plaited her hair tightly.

  6. reaper (n) Someone who gathers harvest Before the invention of mechanical reapers, harvesting was done by hand. A reaper does their work by various means, including plucking the ears of grains directly by hand. Many foreigners work laborious jobs, and some become reapers of crops.

Every student wanted to play the sacrificial offering for the play about the Mayans. (adj) Relating to, used in, or offered as a sacrifice.

  9. sheaf (n) A bundle of grain tied together The villagers brought in their last sheaf with their usual merriment and the whole village joined us for a harvest supper in the hall.
