  2. AIR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENTEarly days

  3. TODAY’S OPERATION IS NOT THAT DIFFERENTJUST A LITTLE MORE COMPLEX….

  4. SAAB CAPABILITIES Sensor Systems Aviation Electronic Warfare Simulation and Training Signature Management Weapon Systems Command and Control Air Traffic Management Civil Security Unmanned Systems

  5. REMOTE TOWERSaab at its best – building on Swedish engineering, ingenuity and innovation“ Pushing Boundaries ”

  6. REMOTE TOWER Meeting the Development in airports and the growing needs of the consumer

  7. MEETING OUR CUSTOMERS NEEDS Our Customer LFV had an obvious development need, their requirements were • Cost reductions for smaller airports • Low cost alternative for building new towers or refurbishment • Multi airport control LFV invited Saab into a partnership in the research and development of a solution In 2006 Saab and LFV raised a Remote Tower validation platform. • Saab developed the technical platform • LFV responsible for operational concepts, validation and safety assessment A close relationship between industry, ANSP, ATCO:s and Safety Authorities was the critical success factor for launching this revolutionary concept.

  9. “SAAB AT ITS BEST” INNOVATION AND CUSTOMISATION TO MEET CUSTOMER NEEDS

  10. DRIVING FORCES FOR THE REMOTE TOWER Leading Edge Technology Leveraging the available Technology with the airliners Efficiency in Airtraffic control and Management by replacing the current Tower services. Utilizing the workforce at it’s best Ability to sequenced control of small airports Availability of trained people when expanding the operation Be more efficient of scheduling controllers. Multi airport control – one controller will be able to control up to 3 airports Adaptable to changing needs –Growing airport strength Increased Safety Reduced Costs

  11. DRIVING FORCES FOR THE REMOTE TOWER INCREASED SAFETY The ability to have 24/7 operation Flexibility to open up airfields – Search & Rescue, SAR 24/7 of recording – incident/accident investigation – enhance operation Support under all Weather conditions Foreign Object Detection Tracking functunality Surveillance

  12. TRACKING FUNCTUNALITY

  13. DRIVING FORCES FOR THE REMOTE TOWER Reduced Costs Survival opportunity for smaller airports with low traffic density Next Generation Technology Multiple utility - Military and Civil Aviation Cost saving benefits Effeciency – leverage aircrafts technology to the utmost.

  14. Unit cost (PER PERSON) increases faster then traffic numbers 130 As is2022 100 90 As is2012 r-TWR2022 Unit cost development DRIVING FORCES FOR THE REMOTE TOWER COST BENEFITS – CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE • CBA in Sweden vs example: • The example CBA – VERY FLEXIBLE – “ATS ON DEMAND”, 1:1 – 1:4

  15. The potential of cost reduction are between 30-60%, in average 40-50% In this example the customer analyzed all movements for 40 airports. Every minute in a year has been mapped 3 ATCOin RTC COST BENEFITS – CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE ATCO ATCO ATCO ATCO ATCO ATCO Airport6 Airport5 Airport4 Airport1 Airport2 Airport3 10.00 10.10 10.20 10.30 10.40 10.50

  16. OUR PRESENT CLIENTS AND THEIR DEVELOPMENTS • Luftfartverket Sweden  Operational 2012 • Airservice Australia  Trials ongoing • Avinor Norway  Trials started

  17. Contract rewarded in January 2011 • Two airports Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik • The RTC will be located in Sundsvall • Delivery in Q2 2012 • Certification of the concept • Operational in the end of 2012 PILOT IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT SWEDEN
