  1. The key To the Issues in Congo By Tom Ferlic

  2. The First Problem • Timber industry is becoming a major faction in trouble • Some loggers are doing it legally; others are not • Results: Destroys land, animal’s habitats and the area overall being depopulated • Possible Solution (s): Guard the forests or make them national parks( therefore they are protected) • Weaker Solution: Find elsewhere for replacement of timber

  3. Too Many Plantations! • Some of the land that is not or already in usage both are being used for plantations • This started earlier and was influenced by European colonization • Exports from plantations of “Shell” enterprises have had major exports, to France, Norway etc • Solution(s): Possibly divide the same land but share the land plots so there are fewer • Make it so property taxes increase

  4. Bushmeat Hunting • Bushmeat hunting-is the hunting of animals for trade in their pelts-(poaching) • It is common and has been around for years and caused multi-billion dollars • It ravishes the land of species and makes animals endangered (tiger, elephant, hippos) • Demands for pelts and ivory are high • Solutions:make iIlegal other places, and if people still commit to doing it-1 year of prison penalty

  5. Bonobo Stew • People usually eat the orangutan as a source of nutrition • The Bonobo is becoming extinct as the cause of this • Solution: Use the goat (domesticated) as an alternative protein source. • The Bonobo is a part of the chimp family and is the closest to the hominid family • Cows are not good, because they are huge and chickens are too little (no refrigeration)
