  1. PROTEUS AMTAdaptive Modulation Transport

  2. Product Overview Outdoor Unit AMT-Series Indoor Unit L-Series Indoor Unit

  3. Point-to-Point Radio Platform 7..8 GHz 11 GHz 13 GHz 15 GHz 18 GHz 23 GHz 38 GHz • Coverage for all standard frequency bands • Independent TX and RX oscillators allow any T/R spacing

  4. What makes Proteus AMT different? • Total capacity 122 Mb/s • Efficient use of Bandwidth • Flexibility • Combined Ethernet and PDH in the same radio

  5. OutdoorUnit DataRate Independent

  6. Bandwidth, Throughput, Customer Interfaces (Defined by IDU) • AMT version IDU (up to 122 Mb/s) :Replaceable IF card and LIMs L-series IDU (up to 50 Mb/s):Software configurable BW, no LIMs

  7. L-Series IDUTotal Capacity: 50 Mb/s

  8. Proteus AMT L-Series Software Configurable • Common hardware for all available capacity, bandwidth, modulation, application • All upgrades by software keys • Channel bandwidth: 3.5, 7, 14 or 28 MHz • Ethernet: mixed transport “on” or “off” • High Throughput (8PSK) or High Gain (QPSK) • PDH: 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 x E1 • 100BaseT Ethernet to 50 Mbps • Mixed transport of N x E1 plus Ethernet in the same radio

  9. Proteus AMT L-Series IDU Type-N IDU/ODU Cable Connection SNMP Network Management (10BaseT - RJ-45) 10/100 BaseT Ethernet RJ-45 (2, bridged) Cast aluminum chassis is convection cooled, no fans DC Power Input Power, Major & Minor Alarm LEDs Laptop Serial Connection (9-pin D) HSB Signaling for use with protection shelf DB-78 E1 Tributary Input/Output Connector

  10. AMT-Series IDUTotal Capacity: 122 Mb/s

  11. Plug and Play with Bandwidth, Modulation, and Data Speed • 4 Types of LIMs (Field Replacable) • 4 Bandwidths (Field Replacable) • 4 Types of Modulations (SW) • Scalable LIM capacity (SW) • Easy expansion to higher capacities even within the same bandwidth (SW) • LIMs are “hot swappable”, without stopping existing traffic • Large variation of different possibilities

  12. Efficient use of Bandwidth The AMT Series IDU: automatically identifies • the installed IF bandwidth, • the installed LIMs and • the number of activated E1’s • … and adjusts the modulation from QPSK to 32 QAM to remain within bandwidth. • (can be changed by the customer to optimize performance)

  13. Line Interface Modules (LIM) • Hot-Swap • Automatic Detection • Software Configurable • Any combination of 2 LIMs can be installed together in an IDU

  14. Mix and Match E1 and Ethernet Channels • Start with all E1s • Integrate Ethernet in the same radio • Distribute traffic speed between E1s and Ethernet • Two ways of extending Ethernet speed • reduce PDH capacity within your existing bandwidth or • use a wider RF band • Total radio capacity: 122 Mb/s (100Mb/s + 4E1) Gradual Migration from PDH E1 Platform to IP Telephony

  15. System Gain versus Throughput

  16. IndoorUnit (AMT Series) Serial input for external modem (9-pin D) EOW Handset SNMP Network Management (10BaseT) Aux: 2 RS-232, 4 Relay out, 6 TTL in Right LIM bay 10/100BaseT LIM shown Type-N IDU/ODU Cable Connection DC Power Input HSB Signaling for use with protection shelf EOW “daisy chain” or RS422 64kbit/s clear channel Left LIM bay 8E1 LIM shown Power & Alarm LEDs Cast aluminum chassis is convection cooled, no fans Laptop Serial Connection (9-pin D)

  17. Integrated Outdoor Unit - ODU • Covers all data rates • Reduced logistics, spare parts and product stocking • Small, light weight and aesthetic - easily blends into the local environment • ODU can be replaced without effecting antenna alignment

  18. Proteus AMT - Summary L-Series IDU: • 50% higher throughput than “traditional“ MW radios • 16 E1 in 14 MHz BW • Mix Ethernet and PDH in one system AMT-Series IDU: • Up to 3x throughput than “traditional“ MW radios • 24E1 in 14 MHz Bandwidth (traditionally: 8E1) • 32E1 in one 28 MHz Channel (traditionally 16E1) • Mix Ethernet and PDH in one system (add PDH or Ethernet to existing platform) • 100BaseT with full 100 Mbit/s in 28 MHz

  19. Proteus AMT - Summary Flexibility • Change modulation and data rate to stay within licensed bandwidth. • Add Ethernet to existing PDH radio • Reallocate bandwidth from PDH to Ethernet, or vice-versa
