Getting to Know Mrs. L awall • Teaching for the last 19 years – • from pre-school to high school; most experience in 4th & 5th grades • Master’s from LaSalle University Bachelor’s from Temple U & HFU; graduate work at Gratz College • Certified Elementary, Early Childhood, Special Education & MS Math • Taught recreational and competitive gymnastics for over 20 yrs • Technology Coach at Goodnoe; co-chair the Tech Committee; School Play Chorus Director; Running Club; Reading Olympics Coach • Raised 3 daughters; all educated here in CRSD; married to Ken, self- employed, real estate developer • Oldest, Tara is married and a NYC Copywriter (U of Maryland; Temple; Miami Ad School) • Second, Tracy is a Physical Therapist in DC • (Temple & U of Miami) • Youngest, Jessica is a Physical Therapist in Newtown, • engaged

Getting to Know Mrs. Sickler • Worked here at Goodnoe Elementary for the last 10 years in 3rd, 4th & 5th grades • Worked at Meadowbrook School and Lower Moreland School District for 3 years • Earned Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Juniata College; Master’s Degree in Special Education from HFU • Reside in Newtown Township with husband, Parker and son, Wyeth; expecting twin girls in the very near future!

Getting to Know Ms. Witte • Been working at Goodnoe in 5th grade for the last 3 years • Council Rock graduate 2007 • Family currently attends Goodnoe Elementary • Earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bloomsburg University • Certified in Elementary & Special Education • Worked in the summer ESY program at Newtown Elementary

Journeys – Reading/Writing Program • Research based explicit, systematic instruction in the areas of Reading, Fluency, Writing, Listening and Speaking, and Language. • The program aligns to the Common Core State Standards • Contains high-quality literature, informational texts, and instructional content • Reading Logs • KidBiz • Differentiated online non-fiction reading program

Reading Logs • Minimum of 25 books per year • 7 books for the 1st marking period • 6 books each for the 2nd - 4th marking periods • Log needs to be completed and signed nightly • Students may also log in class reading each day • Logs will be checked at random • Marking period genre assignments (graded) • 2 required genres per marking period • 4 different genres per marking period • Reading Success Tip: • 15 pages or more per night

KidBiz • Differentiated online reading comprehension program • Kid-friendly, interesting current event articles • Reading & writing activities to boost your child’s comprehension of non-fiction texts • 2 KidBiz assignments weekly • Goal: 70 Kidbiz articles scoring 75% or higher on the first try

The YBTC Challenge is a fun and innovative academic competition that engages grade 5-8 students in learning about important chemistry concepts, scientific discoveries, and laboratory safety. Challenge competitions are exciting events that take place across the country, encouraging the collaboration of industry members, schools, and community organizations, as together, they educate students about the value of science education and the role of chemistry in their everyday lives.

Ericom – The “H” Drive • Each student has his/her OWN “H-drive” on the Council Rock Web Server • This is a secured storage space provided by the district • Allows students to save their work on any computer in the school and access it from any other computer in our school or at home • You may set up your child’s “H-drive” through the internet on your home computer so your child may work on assignments in school and at home • Follow the steps on the school webpage to set up your child’s “H-Drive”

Homework Policy • Students should expect to have 50 minutes of homework per night • Tests need to be signed they will be stamped • Helpful Homework Success Tips • Missed or Incomplete Assignments • Parents will receive the yellow “Missed Assignments” form • The child will usually make up the assignment during recess or at home the following night. • Report card grades will be affected.

BYOD This school year, our class is piloting a “BYOD” If you’re interested in participating, please complete the technology permission form Students will be allowed to use their own device for instruction purposes This is a trial, therefore, we may experience “glitches” at times Students who do not BYOD will still be allowed to use the district devices (laptops & Ipads)
