THE THREE TRUMPETS

There are three great trumpets (shofarim) that mark major events in the redemptive plan of the God of Israel.

These three trumpets (shofarim) are associated with days of the year. These three trumpets are:

(1) The First Trump --- blown on Shavuot

(2) The Last Trump --- blown on Rosh HaShanah

(3) The Great Trump -- blown on Yom Kippur

Two stages of the biblical marriage ceremony

TWO STAGES OF THE BIBLICAL MARRIAGE CEREMONY

There are two primary stages to the Biblical marriage. The first stage is betrothal and the second stage is the consummation of the marriage.

During betrothal you are legally married to your spouse but you do not physically dwell with your mate. Spiritually, whenever we receive Yeshua into our hearts and lives, we are betrothed to Him, our Bridegroom. At this time, we are legally married to Yeshua and are members of the family of Yeshua but we do not physically dwell with Him.

Twelve steps in the ancient israel wedding ceremony

TWELVE STEPS IN THE ANCIENT ISRAEL WEDDING CEREMONY

The God of Israel gave the various customs, services and ceremonies to the nation of Israel (Romans 3:2, 9:4) to teach us about the future coming of the Messiah (Colossians 2:16-17). This included the Biblical wedding customs.

With this in mind, let’s examine the ancient Biblical wedding ceremony which the God of Israel gave to the nation of Israel. The ancient Biblical wedding ceremony which the God of Israel gave to the nation of Israel will teach us about our wedding to the Messiah Yeshua. This wedding ceremony consisted of twelve steps. These twelve steps are as follows:

Step 1 the selection of the bride

STEP #1: THE SELECTION OF THE BRIDE

In ancient Israel, the bride was usually chosen by the father of the bridegroom. The father would send his most trusted servant, known as the agent of the father, to search out the bride.

An excellent example of this can be seen in Genesis 24. In this chapter, Abraham (a type of God the Father) wishes to secure a bride for Isaac (a type of the Messiah) and sends his servant Eliezer(a type of the Holy Spirit / RuachHaKodesh) to do this task (Genesis / Bereishit 24:2-4).

The nation of israel is chosen

THE NATION OF ISRAEL IS CHOSEN

Deuteronomy 7:6 For you are an holy people unto YHVH your God: YHVH your God has chosen you to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Deuteronomy 7:7 YHVH did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all people:

John 15:16 You have not chosen me (Yeshua) but I have chosen you, and ordained you that you should go and bring forth fruit ...

The ruach hakodesh leads us to messiah

THE RUACH HAKODESH LEADS US TO MESSIAH

It is the role of the Holy Spirit / RuachHaKodesh to convict the world of sin and lead them to Yeshua. In John / Yochanan 16:7-8 it is written:

John 16:7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment

Messiah chose and loves his bride

MESSIAH CHOSE AND LOVES HIS BRIDE

The bridegroom chose the bride and lavished his love upon her and she returned his love.

In the same way, Messiah lavishes His love upon His bride. In Ephesians 5:25 it is written:

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Messiah also loved the congregation and gave himself for it.

The bride of messiah loves him

THE BRIDE OF MESSIAH LOVES HIM

Today, the believers in Yeshua the Messiah consent to be married to Him and become His bride even though they have never seen Him. In I Peter / Kefa 1:8 it is written:

1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you see him not, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Step 2 the bride price was established

STEP #2: THE BRIDE PRICE WAS ESTABLISHED

A price would have to be paid for the bride. The agreed upon price was called amohar in Hebrew.

Step 2

STEP #2:

Yeshua being the believers bridegroom paid a very high price for His Bride. The price He paid was His life. Yeshua considered the price He had to pay for His bride before His death as He went into the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. In Matthew / Mattityahu 26:39 it is written:

Matthew 26:39 And he went a little farther and fell on his face, and prayed saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will but as you will.

Messiah is the purpose of creation

Ourmohar, the price that Messiah paid for His Bride was His life. In I Peter / Kefa 1:18-19 it is written:

1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers [Oral Law]:

1 Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Messiah as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

The bride loves messiah with her life

THE BRIDE LOVES MESSIAH WITH HER LIFE

Because Yeshua paid such a high price for us, we ought to return His love by living a holy life before Him and serve Him with all our heart. In I Corinthians 6:20 it is written:

1 Corinthians 6:20

For you are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s

Step 3 the bride and groom are betrothed

STEP #3: THE BRIDE AND GROOM ARE BETROTHED

Betrothal is the first of the two stages of the Biblical marriage. During betrothal, you are legally married to but you do not physically dwell with your bride. Betrothal in Hebrew is known as Kiddushin.

Historically, Yeshua betrothed Himself to Israel at Mount Sinai. In Jeremiah / Yermiyahu 2:2 it is written:

Jeremiah 2:2Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says YHVH; I remember thee, the kindness of your youth, the love of your espousal [betrothal] when you went after me in the wilderness in a land that was not sown.

The bride is betrothed to messiah

THE BRIDE IS BETROTHED TO MESSIAH

Hosea 2:19 And I will betroth you unto me forever; yea, I will betroth you unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in loving kindness, and in mercies.

Hosea 2:20 I will even betroth you unto me in faithfulness and you shall know YHVH

Spiritually, whenever you accept Yeshua as Messiah into our heart and life, you become betrothed to Him while living on the earth.

homologeo¯

From a compound of the base of G3674 and G3056; to assent, that is, covenant, acknowledge: - con- (pro-) fess, confession is made, give thanks, promise.

Step 4 the betrothal contract is written

STEP #4: THE BETROTHAL CONTRACT IS WRITTEN

When the bride and groom are betrothed to each other, a written contract is drawn up known as a ketubah in Hebrew. The betrothal contract is called a shitre erusin in Hebrew.

The ketubah is the marriage contract that states the bride price, the promises of the groom, and the rights of the bride. The groom promises to work for his bride, to honor, support, and maintain her truth, and to provide food, clothing, and the necessities of life.

The torah is our ketubah

THE TORAH IS OUR KETUBAH

The ketubah is the unalienable right of the bride.

Spiritually, the Torah/Word of the God of Israel, the Bible is the believer’s ketubah.

All the promises provided for the believers in the Messiah are legally ours. In II Corinthians 1:20 it is written:

2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yes, and in him, Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Step 5 the bride must give her consent

STEP #5: THE BRIDE MUST GIVE HER CONSENT

When the God of Israel betrothed Himself to Israel at Mount Sinai, the ketubah was the Torah. The children of Israel accepted the terms of the marriage by saying, “I do”. In Exodus / Shemot24:3 it is written:

Exodus 24:3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of YHVH, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, “All the words which YHVH has said, we will do”.

We must say i do to yeshua

WE MUST SAY ‘I DO’ TO YESHUA

Spiritually, in order the receive Yeshua as Messiah, you must accept His invitation by saying, “I do”. In Romans 10:9-10 it is written:

Romans 10:9 That if you shall confess with your mouth YHVH Yeshua, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.

Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation

Step 6 gifts are given to the bride

STEP #6: GIFTS ARE GIVEN TO THE BRIDE

The rite of betrothal (erusin) is completed when the groom gives something of value to the bride and she accepts it. The gift most often given today is the ring. When the groom places the ring on the bride’s finger, the rite of betrothal is completed. The gifts to the bride are symbols of love, commitment, and loyalty.

The bride of messiah is given the ruach hakodesh

THE BRIDE OF MESSIAH IS GIVEN THE RUACH HAKODESH

Spiritually, the gift which YHVH gives to those who receive the Messiah is the indwelling Holy Spirit / Ruach HaKodesh. When Yeshua ascended to Heaven following his resurrection, He gave gifts to men. In Ephesians 4:7-8 it is written:

Ephesians 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Messiah.

Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore, he says, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts to men.

The gift of righteousness

THE GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

One of these gifts that Messiah gives His bethrothed Bride is the gift of righteousness. In Romans 5:17-18 it is written:

Romans 5:17 But if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Yeshua HaMashiach.

Romans 5:18 Therefore, as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation: even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

The gift of eternal life

THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE

Another gift is eternal life. In Romans 6:23 it is written:

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life through Yeshua HaMashiach our YHVH

The gift of grace

THE GIFT OF GRACE

Another gift is grace. In Romans 5:12, 14-15 it is written:

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.

Romans 5:14 Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Romans 5:15But not as the offense, so also is the free gift: For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift of grace, which is by one man, Yeshua HaMashiach, has abounded unto many.

The gift of faith

THE GIFT OF FAITH

Another gift is faith. In Ephesians 2:8-9 it is written:

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God

Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast

Spiritual gifts

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

The God of Israel also gave the gifts of His Spirit. In I Corinthians 12:1, 4, 8 it is written:

1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

1 Corinthians 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom: to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

Spiritual gifts1

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

1 Corinthians 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit

1 Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

1 Corinthians 12:10 But all these works that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

The cup of the covenant

THE CUP OF THE COVENANT

Not only were gifts given to the Bride but the cup of the covenant was shared between the bride and the groom. In doing so, the couple drank from a common cup.

The cup is first given to the groom to sip and then given to the bride. This cup known as the cup of the covenant is spoken of in Jeremiah / Yermiyahu 31:31-33 as it is written:

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, says YHVH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

The cup of the covenant1

THE CUP OF THE COVENANT

Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband unto them, says YHVH.

Jeremiah 31:33But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, says YHVH, I will put my Torah in their inward parts and write it in their hearts; and will be their God and they shall be my people.

The cup of the covenant2

THE CUP OF THE COVENANT

Yeshua spoke of the cup of the New Covenant in Luke 22:20 as it is written:

Luke 22:20 Likewise, also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood which is shed for you.

Step 7 the bride has a mikvah

STEP #7: THE BRIDE HAS A MIKVAH

Mikvah is a ceremonial act of purification by the immersion in water. Immersion indicates a separation from a former way of life to a new way of life.

In the case of marriage, it indicates leaving an old life for a new life with your spouse (Genesis / Bereishit 2:23-24, Ephesians 5:31).

Redeemed israel had a mikvah

REDEEMED ISRAEL HAD A MIKVAH

Immersion in the mikvah is considered spiritual rebirth. When Yeshua betrothed Himself to Israel at Mount Sinai, the children of Israel were immersed. In Ezekiel / Yechezekel 16:8-9 it is written:

Ezekiel 16:8 Now I passed by you, and looked upon you, behold, your time was the time of love ... I sware unto you and entered into a covenant with you, says YHVH and you became mine.

Ezekiel 16:9 Then washed I you with water ...

The bride of messiah is immersed in the ruach hakodsh

THE BRIDE OF MESSIAH IS IMMERSED IN THE RUACH HAKODSH

Whenever we accept Yeshua as Messiah, God the Father immerses us with His Holy Spirit / Ruach HaKodesh. In Acts 11:15-16 it is written:

Acts 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them as on us at the beginning

Acts 11:16Then remembered I the word of YHVH, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but youshall be baptized with the Holy Spirit

Messiah is the purpose of creation

STEP #8: THE BRIDEGROOM DEPARTED THE BRIDE AND WENT BACK TO THE FATHER’S HOUSE TO PREPARE THE BRIDAL CHAMBER

At this point, the bridegroom leaves for his father’s house to prepare the bridal chamber for his bride. It was understood to be the man’s duty to go away to be with his father, build the house, and prepare for the eventual wedding.

Before he goes, he will make a statement to his bride, “I go to prepare a place for you; if I go, I will return again unto you”.

Messiah prepares the bridal chamber

MESSIAH PREPARES THE BRIDAL CHAMBER

Spiritually, Yeshua said these same words to His Bride. In John / Yochanan 14:1-3 it is written:

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in Elohim, believe also in me.

John 14:2 In my Father’s house are many mansion: if it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Messiah is the purpose of creation

STEP #9: THE BRIDE IS CONSECRATED AND SET APART FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WHILE THE BRIDEGROOM WAS AWAY BUILDING THE HOUSE

Before the bridegroom could go and get the bride, the groom’s father had to be satisfied that every preparation had been made by the son. Only then could he give permission to the son to go and get the bride.

In other words, while the bridegroom was working on the bridal chamber, it was the father who “okayed” the final bridal chamber. The bridegroom did not know when the father would declare the bridal chamber fit and send him to go get the bride.

Mark 13 32 34

MARK 13:32-34

Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knows no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Mark 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for you know not when the time is

Mark 13:34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch

Mark 13 35 37

MARK 13:35-37

Mark 13:35Watch ye therefore; for you know not when the master of the house comes, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

Mark 13:36Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping

Mark 13:37And what I say unto you, I say unto all Watch

The bride waits eagerly for the bridegroom

THE BRIDE WAITS EAGERLY FOR THE BRIDEGROOM

Meanwhile, the bride was to wait eagerly for the return of the bridegroom. In the mind of the bride, the bridegroom could come at any time, even in the middle of the night or at midnight. Therefore, she had to be ready at all times. Yeshuareferred to this when he told the story of the Ten Virgins in Matthew / Mattityahu 25:1-13.

While waiting for her bridegroom to come, the bride had to have thought to herself, “Is he really coming back for me? Is he really going to keep his word?”

Messiah is the purpose of creation

STEP #10: THE BRIDEGROOM WOULD RETURN WITH A SHOUT, “BEHOLD THE BRIDEGROOM COMES” AND THE SOUND OF THE RAM’S HORN (SHOFAR) WOULD BE BLOWN

The time of the return of the bridegroom could be at any time even midnight. When the bridegroom came, he came with a shout (Matthew 25:6) and with the blowing of the trumpet

(I Thessalonians 4:16-17)

Blessed is he who comes

BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES

The marriage will have a sacred procession. For this reason, the bridegroom will enter the chuppah (marriage canopy) first. When the bridegroom approaches the chuppah, the cantor chants, “Blessedis he who comes.”

Blessed is he who comes is an idiomatic expression which means “welcome”.Yeshua said that he would not return until these words were spoken. In Matthew 23:39 it is written:

Matthew 23:39 For I say unto you, You shall not see me henceforth, until you say,Blessed is he that comes in the name of YHVH.

Messiah is the purpose of creation

STEP #11: THE BRIDEGROOM WOULD RETURN FOR HIS BRIDE USUALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TO GO TO THE BRIDAL CHAMBER WHERE THE MARRIAGE WOULD BE CONSUMMATED

The bride and groom will then go to the wedding chamber where the marriage will be consummated. They will stay in that wedding chamber for seven days or a week. At the end of the seven days, the bride and groom will come out from the wedding chamber.

STEP #12: THERE WILL BE A MARRIAGE SUPPER FOR ALL THE GUESTS INVITED BY THE FATHER OF THE BRIDE

The bride and groom will be in the wedding chamber for seven days. When the bride and the groom initially went into the wedding chamber, the friend of the bridegroom stood outside the door. All the assembled guests of the wedding gathered outside waiting on the friend of the bridegroom to announce the consummation of the marriage which was relayed to him by the groom. John the Immerser (Baptist) referred to this in John / Yochanan 3:29.

At this signal, great rejoicing broke forth. The marriage was consummated on the first night (Genesis / Bereishit 29:23). The bloodstained linen from this night was preserved. It was proof of the bride’s virginity (Deuteronomy / Devarim 22:13-21).

THE HOME OF THE BRIDE IS JERUSALEM

On the wedding day, the bridegroom is seen as a king and the bride as a queen. The home of the bride was Jerusalem and it was the bridegroom who came to the bride to dwell with her. It is from Jerusalem that the believers in the Messiah

will rule and reign with Him during the Messianic Age. In Isaiah 2:2-3 it is written:

Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of YHVH’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills and all nations shall flow unto it.

During the times of the new heavens and earth (Isaiah 66:22-23, Revelation 21:1-3), the eternal home of Yeshua’s Bride will be the New Jerusalem as mentioned in Revelation 21. In Hebrews 12:22 it is written:

Hebrews 12:22 But you are come unto the Mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels.
