  2. Religion Some people believe that Ireland is a Catholic country. Some say “In the name of the most holy trinity from whom is all authority and to whom, as our final end all actions both of men and states must be referred”. The Catholic population is 92% republic. There is a lot of Catholics in Ireland.

  3. Traditional Foods of Ireland • The traditional foods of Ireland are potatoes and pig stomach, and lots of stew. Sometimes eaten boiled, mashed, fried, chipped and baked or mixed with cabbage or scallions to make colcannon or champed. Irish traditional cuisine is a peasant cuisine.

  4. Holidays Celebrated! • Valentines Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, Easter, Halloween. • Valentines Day is celebrated because the red heart has become a traditional symbol of valentines day and the red heart is apart of there culture and religion. Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated because the patron saint of Ireland. Easter is celebrated because it is named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring. Halloween is celebrated because the Celtics who lived in the areas which is now Ireland.

  5. Music! • Ireland mostly has bands as their music source. They don’t have music like us Americans. The pogues, The Cranberries, U2. They are all successful artists paying tribute to there Irish heritage a lot through popular music. Still today the tradition of Irish music is still heavily steeped in the culture and history.

  6. The Way They Dress • Ireland does not have a standard dress code but they do have school uniforms for students. There are many options available for Irish people, Traditional clothing like tweed is still worn by men in Ireland. Teenage girls are wearing trendy short skirts.

  7. Sports • Hurling is the great Irish national sport. They also play Gaelic football is played with almost the same rules but there is no stick . Soccer is the other biggest sport. Only the best Irish players play that soccer game there are many more but those are the main three.

  8. Language • They speak English but there are many or other languages. Irish Gaelic is the first official language of Ireland. The English that they speak is kind of a slang/Irish accent.

  9. Education • In Ireland Western education began 14 centuries ago. Almost 1000 Irish missionaries traveled to England to teach Christianity. The Irish had a free public school system for all children 6 to 15 year old. In winter they had classes but only for collage.

  10. Population • The population of the Irish republic is 3,540,643 it gives the country a overall population of about 50 persons per sq. km. The population went down from the 1840’s when about 6.5 million people lived in the area included in the republic , but in 1970 largely because of high emigration rate.
