  2. New Dyes for Solar Cells – Can Coordination Chemistry Save the World ? Dr. Neil Robertson School of Chemistry, University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom) Low-cost solar energy will be essential in the coming decades to address our increasing energy demands without excessive use of fossil fuels. The talk will focus on both dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSC) and luminescent solar concentrators (LSC), two approaches that can lower the cost of photovoltaics. New Cu and Ru dyes for DSSC will be discussed, aimed at enhancing light harvesting, stability and/or cost. For LSCs, new lanthanide emitters will be presented and discussed in terms of light harvesting, emission quantum yield and the self absorption problem.
